411 lb. wild boar caught near San Antonio golf course

SAN ANTONIO - A 411-pound feral boar was caught near Gateway Hills Golf Course last Thursday by members of Lone Star Trapping.
"We've captured over 1,200 feral hogs in that area in the last three years," Wyatt Walton of LST said.

The massive hog was tied alive and removed from the area with the assistance of K-9s.

I've seen a couple of huge dead ones on the side of the road and wondered if the vehicle that hit them survived. We have some feral hogs in my neighborhood but nowhere near that size.

Feral hogs, at least over 6 months old are inedible.  Or....  in my case, I sure don't want a helpiing of it.

On a golf course...wow! I live in a rural area on a lake close to the river bottoms. We are infested. I saw a feral one evening at dusk that looked like a VW traveling down my property. Now, before you say "berdie" was drinkin' that night" the game warden got involved and killed it. I wish I could find the picture in our local newspaper, but it was several years ago.(their archives don't go back that far) The boar was huge.

A good friend shot a bigun in the Brazos river bottom down the road from Rosharon. He had to call a friend to help him get it in the truck. I was called to help him get it out with my chain hoist. I don't know how heavy it was. We weighed the hide with its gristle? shield and that alone weighed 180lbs. My friend was in a ground blind when he took a shot at him. That just pissed him off and he charged him. He emptied his rifle, pulled his 45 and finally brained him at his feet.

Now it was a lotta yrs ago. West of the River. South of 1462. Down Cow Creek and back towards the river. I shot me a nice 6 pointer when it was flooded. A lung shot and he trotted off outta sight. I was worried, how do you track in the water? No problem at all. With every exhalation there was a 3 foot circle of blood painted weeds poking up outta the water. He only went about 40 yds. That 8mm 98K Mauser did the job.
