A deputy city attorney from Los Angeles shot his wife and son on Wednesday — killing them both inside of his home — before turning the gun on himself, cops and relatives said.

Deputy City Attorney Eric Lertzman, 60, also allegedly tried to murder his adult daughter, but she managed to escape out a bathroom window, according to LA officials.

A neighbor told local reporters that the woman ran out of the house screaming that her dad had tried to shoot her. ...

Cops received a call of a domestic disturbance at the residence and arrived to find three bodies — Lertzman, his wife Sandra, 60, and their son Michael, 19. Two handguns were recovered at the scene.  ...

The longtime city worker had served since 2005. It’s unclear if he had any mental problems or issues that would cause him to snap.  ...

Sad story. Red flag laws would help in this case. I'm sure his family could've reported him when they saw he was emotionally distraught.

See something, say something. Right?

We need to tackle mental health as well. So, comprehensive gun reform and universal health care

What an bleep! Should have shot himself and been done with it. Let his family carry on with their grief and/or relief.

California has some of the strictest gun "control" laws in the nation, and once again their impotence has been demonstrated. "Red Flag" laws deny a constitutional right without due process, and thus are unconstitutional on their face.

Don't like the 2nd Amendment? Be honest enough to stop playing games trying to bypass and circumvent it and instead repeal/amend it. But also be honest enough with yourself to realize your efforts are likely to be rejected.

This guy was a respected city attorney, it seems. He had no criminal record and already owned the gun. Apparently, no one suspected emotional issues. How the #*%$ would red flag laws make on bit of difference?

... “The motive behind this tragic murder-suicide is still under investigation, but investigators believe the recent loss of a loved one and ongoing health issues played a significant role,” the LAPD said in a news release Wednesday evening.

On Michael Lertzman’s [the murdered son] Instagram page, he’d posted two weeks ago about his grandmother, Phyllis Lertzman, passing away. She died Aug. 26, according to her obituary. Eric Lertzman was one of her three sons, according to the obituary.  ...
