President Donald Trump late Sunday lashed out at NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt, along with singer John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen, prompting the celebrity couple to tag-team on Twitter attacks against the president after he referred to the supermodel as Legend's "filthy-mouthed wife."
Trump started tweeting after Holt's town hall, filmed inside New York's Sing Sing prison, aired on MSNBC Sunday night, reports The Washington Post. Holt, who was joined on the program by Legend, asked prisoners about their ideas for changing the prison system.
However, Holt didn't talk about the First Step Act, a bipartisan criminal justice reform bill signed by Trump last December, which prompted Trump to post a four-tweet complaint that included calling Legend a "boring musician" and labeling Teigen, who has been criticizing Trump on Twitter since before his election, as "filthy-mouthed."
Teigen hit back at Trump with an expletive, noting that he didn't tag her by name and pointing out that "the absolute best part of his tweet is I literally didn't speak in the special, nor was I mentioned."
