Kroger asks customers to stop openly carrying guns in stores

By Aris Folley - 09/03/19 08:29 PM EDT

Kroger, the country’s largest grocery chain, has asked its customers to no longer openly carry firearms in its stores.

“Kroger is respectfully asking that customers no longer openly carry firearms into our stores, other than authorized law enforcement officers,” Jessica Adelman, who serves as group vice president of corporate affairs, said in a statement to Reuters on Tuesday afternoon.

“We are also joining those encouraging our elected leaders to pass laws that will strengthen background checks and remove weapons from those who have been found to pose a risk for violence,” she continued.

Prior to the change in policy, Adelman told the news agency that store locations adhered to local gun laws.

Is this Walmart's Press Release, word for word?

If HEB follows along with this it could decimate the Deer population in Texas.

Not that big a deal, really, is it? We still will carry concealed in Kroger, Walmart and just about everywhere that doesn't make you walk through a metal detector to enter.

Exactly.  When the "request" becomes a "demand" and the metal detectors go up, I go bye-bye.

Ditto.  I live outside a small town, and Kroger is the only grocery store within a reasonable distance of home. I will continue to shop there, and I'll continue to have my 9mm with me every time I do. They'll never know - unless I happen to stop a bad guy trying to rob the pharmacy. Then, I hope, they'll thank me for carrying.

King Soopers (owned by Kroger) made the same move out here in Colorado.

How I carry will not change when/if I'm in one of their stores.
