Tropical Storm Dorian could be hurricane as it nears Puerto Rico, forecasters say

San Juan, Puerto Rico -- The National Hurricane Center issued a hurricane watch and tropical storm warning for Puerto Rico early Tuesday as Tropical Storm Dorian moved through the Windward Islands. Also early Tuesday, the Dominican Republic government issued a hurricane watch for some parts of the island and a tropical storm watch for portions of its north and south coasts.

The hurricane center, in Miami, recommended that residents of the Virgin Islands keep an eye on Dorian, as well. The center said that, as of 2 p.m. EDT Tuesday, the storm had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and was forecast to strengthen over the next 48 hours as it moved toward Puerto Rico.

It looks like the powerful "windward" side of the storm is missing PR, which is probably why they are now predicting a 3 when it hits the mainland.

I think so, but this sucker was forecasted to be a depression at the 5 day point, about a day ago.

Depending on what map you look at, it appears the weather guessers are forecasting landfall in Florida anywhere from  Jacksonville to Vero Beach. 

But who knows?

Ah!  Yes, it was.  At the time, it was "Maybe a Hurricane" if/when it hits the mainland.  It remains to be seen if it holds to the models.  I consider 2 or more to be a killer storm....Prayers for our Floridian friends (and Georgians, too.  They aren't breathing easy just yet).

It is 2:18 pm, central time.  I just saw the various paths it could take and two of those paths show it crossing Florida and passing into the gulf.  Gulf waters are hotter than where it is now; I do not want it in the gulf and threatening Texas.
