Byrne's resignation comes after conspiratorial comments from August 12, where he confessed his role in the 'deep state', claiming that he helped cause "damage done to our nation for three years and felt my duty as a citizen precluded me from staying silent any longer."  In the "comments on Deep State" statement, Byrne referred to law-enforcement officials as "the Men in Black" and said his choice to go public was encouraged by his "Omaha Rabbi."

"Thus, while I believe that I did what was necessary for the good of the country, for the good of the firm, I am in the sad position of having to sever ties with Overstock, both as CEO and board member, effective Thursday August 22," Byrne wrote.

Byrne released an initial statement last week where he discussed his involvement in the federal government's investigation into the 2016 election interference, though he wasn't super-specific, he said he assisted in 'investigations' related to the Clintons and Russia.  ...  Full story

I read his resignation letter earlier today and couldn't tell what the heck he was trying to say.  Here's a snippet:

Thus, while I believe that I did what was necessary for the good of the country, for the good of the firm, I am in the sad position of having to sever ties with Overstock, both as CEO and board member, effective Thursday August 22.

This possibility or even likelihood has been forefront of my mind for just over a year, since certain news became public in July 2018.  ...

...  Coming forward publicly about my involvement in other matters was hardly my first choice. But for three years I have watched my country pull itself apart while I knew many answers, and I set my red line at seeing civil violence breaking out. My Rabbi made me see that “coming forward” meant telling the public (not just the government) the truth. I now plan on leaving things to the esteemed Department of Justice (which I have doubtless already angered enough by going public) and disappearing for some time.

He noted that the communications will prove that the FBI also had an operation into Clinton Foundation that he was directly involved in.

“This is going to become the greatest political scandal in US history,” he said. “If we survive it, and if Rule of Law returns to America, it will be due to one man: Bill Barr.”  ...

Overstock.com's CEO resigned on Thursday weeks after he admitted to having a relationship with a Russian agent and being involved in an FBI probe.

The company's stock prices surged 5 percent after Patrick Byrne resigned following his claim of being involved in a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into Russia and former U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

His resignation follows a drop of over 30 percent in the online retailer's shares over two days earlier this month, with investors rattled after Byrne claimed in a statement that he had secretly been involved with the FBI since 2015.

The stock briefly surged 15 percent after the announcement of Byrne's resignation.

I’m watching former Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne being interviewed on Fox right now and it is completely bonkers. He claims he had knowledge of a deep state conspiracy to set up Hillary Clinton, and Rubio, Cruz, and then Trump, if I am following this correctly.

I watched the tape of his interview and I don't know what to think. He says Barr has all the information, so maybe something will come of it.

Byrne was just on CNN close to an hour.

He was close to this Russian woman so the FBI asked him to help them find out what she was doing.  He said he would do it.  That is the crux of all this.  He could have told the FBI "No", but he helped them.  End of story.

Considering their recent record, I don't trust the word of the "FBI."

He needs a good lawyer, to succinctly state his case.

Cuz I have listened to his Fox appearance, and I don't fully understand it.

I do however believe there is some serious bad stuff, from the Clapper, Brennan, Comey, McCabe, Strzok effort to exhonerate Clinton, and overturn Trump's election.

The Russia-Trump Connection was a conspiracy theory until it was disproven.  The hypocrisy of the left is that they use such conspiracy theories against their opposition... even while accusing their opposition of being conspiracy theory nuts and wackos.   Ironic, eh?
