We tested popular cellphones for radiofrequency radiation. Now the FCC is investigating.
Sam Roe

The Apple iPhone 7 was set to operate at full power and secured below a tub of clear liquid, specially formulated to simulate human tissue.

With the push of a button, a robotic arm swung into action, sending a pencil-thin probe dipping into the tub. For 18 minutes, it repeatedly measured the amount of radiofrequency radiation the liquid was absorbing from the cellphone.

This test, which was paid for by the Tribune and conducted according to federal guidelines at an accredited lab, produced a surprising result: Radiofrequency radiation exposure from the iPhone 7 — one of the most popular smartphones ever sold — measured over the legal safety limit and more than double what Apple reported to federal regulators from its own testing.

Interesting article.

While it suggests radiation tested levels from phones above limits, it fails to mention the harmful health impact.

What is an early warning sign, of symptoms?

Hearing voices in your head, when the phone is not in use?

I used to use a cell phone for conversations lasting an hour or more a day, held next to my head.

Where I commonly held the phone, I now have a scar where a basal cell carcinoma was removed.

I use the speakerphone, now.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

On January 7, 2013, a report was released by the Bioinitiative Working Group that reviewed over 1800 new scientific studies. The 21 chapter report, written by 29 scientists and public health experts concluded, in part, that there is a consistent pattern of increased risk of malignant brain tumours with prolonged use of cell phones and cordless phones.

• On January 3, 2013 A Swedish meta-analysis of previous data on brain tumour risk and the use of cell phones concluded that the existing radiofrequency exposure standards are not adequate to protect public health.

• December 2012: A study of cell phone users in Saudi Arabia, where cell phone use is one of the highest in the world, found that prolonged use of cell phones was associated with a number of health problems, including fatigue, headaches, dizziness, tension and sleep disturbance.

• In December 2012 the American Academy of Pediatrics, a medical organization of around 60,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical specialists and surgeons called for action to protect children and teenagers from possible cell phone hazards.

• In October 2012 the Italian Supreme court ruled that a businessman’s brain tumour was caused by his use of a cell phone for 12 years. That ruling is not reversible and stands.

• In August 2012 the Australian government established a $2.5 million fund for a Centre of Research Excellence to continue research on the possibility of health risks from cell phone use.

A report has just been written which advises people on steps to take to reduce the risks to their health. This advice, in part, includes:

* Use a hands-free device. Use text messaging.

* Keeping the phone away from the user head with a minimum of 15mm as recommended by Apple in the user manual page 6 iPhone and 25mm by Blackberry.

* Purchase a low radiation phone (low Specific Absorption Rate-SAR).

4. Real Exposure Studies as Opposed to Studies with Simulated Exposures

A significant number of studies have already been published which employed commercially available mobile phones during connection (“talk”, “listen”, or “call” modes) for exposure to a wide variety of animals (including humans)/biological samples, including Drosophila [6, 8, 26, 31–37], ants [38], chicken eggs [39], quails [40], human sperm in vitro [41, 42], human volunteers in vivo [43–52], mice or rats or guinea-pigs or rabbits in vivo [53–69], mouse cells in vitro [70], bees [71–73], protozoa [74], and even purified proteins in vitro [75]. An impressive percentage (95.8%) of these studies (46 out of 48 studies with real-life exposures) have recorded significant adverse biological or clinical effects, ranging from loss of orientation, kinetic changes, and behavioral or electroencephalographic (EEG) changes to decrease in male and female reproductive capacity, reproductive declines, molecular changes, changes in enzymatic activity, DNA damage and cell death, and histopathological changes in the brain. It was found that during “talk” mode (voice modulation) the exposure is significantly more bioactive than during “listen” mode due to the voice modulation and associated increased intensity of the emissions [7, 31]. From the remaining two studies, one reported no effect [55] and one reported an increase in short-term memory of children [47] which we do not count as an adverse effect although it may be.

Conducted and radiated EMI tests are always done with a properly built device - phone, computer, whatever. The quality of what comes off production line at CMs in Asia (Apple doesn't build its product beyond some configuration tweaks; ditto Dell, HP, etc.) varies, depending on how well the CM treats its employees, training, and sometimes the time of the year (employee turn-over can be pretty high after New Year). So it does not surprise me that a random device - cell phone of any brand, computer of any brand, etc. - exceeds its specification.

I'm not a fan of the Deciduous Fruit Computer Company, but the above is reality.

Unless you are using your cell phone very frequently you probably got more radiated EMI exposure today from your computer or tablet.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

I used to use a cell phone for conversations lasting an hour or more a day, held next to my head.

Where I commonly held the phone, I now have a scar where a basal cell carcinoma was removed.

I use the speakerphone, now.

I would frequently go over my 1500 min/mo plan back when Nokia was a thing, and all the way through the flip-phone days... Now, no doubt, the Droid I use is far more powerful... But I seldom actually carry the phone, interacting with it using a bluetooth mic/spkr earbud set...

I am currently playing with the idea of leaving the phone mostly in the truck, even when at home and in fact, most of the time... the phone itself tied to a head unit, boosting power and tied to a legit ground-planed antenna... The phone would still be capable of going portable for cases when I am not within bluetooth range of the truck, but really that is a small slice of actual time.

Two real problems limit this very fun project.

Firstly, I need to duplicate it for the mini van (which I actually use more)... That is problematic not only in the cost in both money and time (the head unit is my own, using raspberry tech), but in the interaction (and security) and ID, since I am getting the car tied into the local LAN when the car is home and the phone is active when the phone is within the car's matrix... That home-home scenario is beyond the phone's capabilities.

And more importantly, the AI in the phone simply is not reliable enough to interact exclusively via voice... ie: Google Assistant is just plain incapable of understanding redneck.  :crying:

Even so, The tech is close to working in this fashion, and could be extended considerably utilizing internet, or even a low power transmission in realtime.. Say something around the same lines as a cordless housephone that could handle an intermediary range, greater than the range of bluetooth, but within say, 1/4 mile of the vehicle, at which point my particular needs are 98% resolved (when I am not in the woods). The car becomes the access point, and the device I have on me is a relatively low powered, low(er) frequency unit tying me to the capabilities residing in the vehicle.
