Seven years after running for president as the GOP standard bearer, U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney on Monday described himself as a “renegade Republican” and said that he is “not part of the Republican establishment these days.”

In a wide-ranging speech at the Sutherland Institute, a conservative think tank in Salt Lake City, Utah’s junior senator argued against “socialist” proposals being discussed on the Democratic presidential debate stage such as “Medicare for All” and free college tuition. He also lamented that “neither party is interested in talking about the debt and the deficit.”

“I guess I should consider myself a renegade Republican because I still believe that deficits and debt matter a lot,” Romney said.

I always thought Romney was a decent man.  A little weak around the edges, yes, but basically decent.  I was wrong.

Romney is representative of most republican politicians. They will do the will of their base only when forced to, regardless of what they tell us.

Otherwise they're only in it for the money.

I envy the left only in one sense - many of their representatives actually believe the crap they spew.

Just an example of an ever weaker, softer America.

Homeless encampments, instead of naming the condition after the true cause--drug addicts.

Why teach a man to fish, when you can get immediate attention for giving him fish. And if they are the taxpayers' fish, why not give them away?

Why demand the addict change, when officers can carry Narcan?

Why demand parents be adults when Ritalin is available.

I don't know that there is much demand for a Romney-type Republican.  Soft and squishy people go for democrats.  Romney is a squish in the wrong party.  What's the old saying: neither fish nor fowl nor good red herring?
