The Past and the Future

IMPORTANT:  Do not, repeat not, automatically believe the words below.  Question them!!  Think about them!!  Seek contrary views!!  Then and only then, decide on their veracity.

For the young guys and gals still going to school you might consider going to college and studying in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).  For many working in those fields it is so interesting that most don’t think of it as ‘work’ and the pay ‘ain’t bad’ either!!  One of the main tools in all the sciences is called a ‘graph,’ literally a picture and as the ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius said; ‘A picture is worth a thousand words.’  A picture tells a story and so let’s look at the story below.

Credibility

A theory may be defined as an assumption – a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, (but) without proof.  Empirical data is information collected by recorded observation.  Around 1970 we were told the theory that man’s burning of fossil fuels that emit CO2 (carbon dioxide) would create a worldwide Ice Age.  Around 1985 the same theory was brought forth excepting, now, Global Warming would happen. Hmmmm???? Think of the word credibility. Empirical data shows that Global temperatures have not risen for the last 20 years.

The story (above) is a history described in it’s title and the numbers around the graph are explained and pretty easy to understand.  For example at ~600 million years ago (~  means approximate) the earth’s atmospheric temperature was 22°C and CO2 was at ~2800ppm (parts per million).  Now, this graph does not show records to the present day and about 2.5 million years have to be added but that’s for another graph later.
