Israel approves Tlaib request to visit grandmother in West Bank

Israel's interior minister Aryeh Deri on Friday announced he would approve a request from U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) to enter Israel to visit her Palestinian relatives in the West Bank, according to multiple reports.

The move comes a day after Israel had announced it would deny entry to Tlaib and fellow congresswoman Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn) in a scheduled trip, citing the lawmakers' past criticism of the country.

The decision to block their entry came shortly after a tweet from President Trump urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to block the House members' visit, saying it would "show great weakness" to let them visit.

Rashida Talib folds, accepts conditions to be allowed into Israel

“Congresswoman Talib sent a letter to Minister Deri tonight pledging to accept Israel’s demands, respecting the restrictions imposed on her during the visit, and promising not to promote boycotts against Israel during her visit. In light of this, and in accordance with his commitment yesterday, Minister Deri decided to allow her entry into Israel and expressed hope that her commitment and visit would indeed be for humanitarian purposes only.”
