Mauricio Macri's government was defeated Sunday in Argentina’s primary elections, with the one-term incumbent receiving 32.1% of the vote while his left wing challenger, Alberto Fernández, received more than 47%. The primaries, a precursor to the final vote, are open to all eligible voters, and given Macri’s loss it is almost impossible for him to reverse that result in the presidential elections on October 27.

The main reason for his defeat was that after almost four years in office, all the variables of the macro-economy worsened: inflation went from 25% to 50%, the dollar went from 15 pesos to 45 (and it is possible that it may jump to 60!), poverty increased from 30% to 34%, debt to the IMF multiplied, and the nation fell deeper into recession. The reasons for Macri’s failure are complex.

The victory of Alberto Fernández, whose running mate is former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (CFK), implies more of a turn towards the left-center through a Peronist coalition than the return of Kirchnerism. Two months ago, CFK announced that she would not run for president, despite being a popular yet polarizing politician. So she nominated Alberto Fernández – former chief of ministers to her husband Néstor Kirchner – who had previously resigned from CFK’s camp and begun criticizing her management decisions.

Macri Has One Last Chance, But he Refuses to Accept Reality
If the most important thing is that Kirchnerism does not return, the president could set a strategic move in motion. However, he shows no interest in going in that direction

Macri doesn’t want a “coalition-government,” emergency or transition cabinet. He still thinks he can reverse the election in October. EFE/ Juan Ignacio Roncoroni

In last night’s presentation, after losing to Alberto Fernandez by 47.65 % against 32.08 %, Mauricio Macri suffered defeat. He recognized a terrible election, and before the official data was available, he spoke of more than ten points of difference with the Frente de Todos. However, he persevered with the prospect of competing in October and seeking a comeback.

The numbers show that this is not very likely: there was a high percentage of the electorate voting (75%, so you would not expect a significant absentee vote) and the candidates more akin to him than to Kirchnerism, all together, add up to 13.03%. If the entirety of those voters decides to support the president in the next round, he still lacks two percentage points. The Frente de Izquierda has 2.86% but not even the most optimistic of the Macrists could expect any votes from them.

The same will happen in October, and the ballot will be divided between Blanco and Kirchnerism. Even the Scioli Zannini duo could not achieve the full flow of the hard left in the second lap. Kirchnerism also blamed the “trotskos” or the far left for Macri’s brief victory four years ago.

This Macri fellow apparently is a Scandinavian type socialist or something. Just posting updates, not much to say here. Let's hope Forbes is correct and no great affect.

The Spanish Hapsburg's settled the Americas, until the gradual rise of Great Britain;
following its defeat of the Armada in 1588.
Then after some 300 years they gave up and went home, as Latin America reverted
to its tribal cultural values, grounded in the Aztec and Inca Religions.
Peron is but one of hundreds of Latin frauds and hustlers and the reason that continent,
along w/Africa, has always been and will continue to be a third world basket case
