Italy’s Interior Minister had the perfect response to actor Richard Gere, who inserted himself into the country’s immigration issues when he urged the government to help African migrants who’ve been stranded on a Spanish charity boat for more than a week.

"Given this generous millionaire is voicing concern for the fate of the Open Arms migrants, we thank him: he can take back to Hollywood, on his private plane, all the people aboard and support them in his villas,” Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said in a statement, according to Reuters. “Thank you Richard!"

Gere, who has a net worth of $120 million dollars, visited the boat on Friday, asking that the Italian government stop “demonizing people” and let the 160 migrants on board disembark.

This story reminds me of someone telling me that they supported Bernie Sanders because “he cares about working and poor people.”

I reminded that person that the reason Bernie Sanders has that position is because he has a position of power to take other peoples money to care about those people
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Reminds me of what this pompous bore had the poor sense to say during the 9/11 benefit 'Concert for New York City'.

What an idiot - even the Dalai Lama thinks he's a bimbo.

Yes, let's not push our values onto the rest of the world, unless of course they're leftist values.

Let Mr. Gere transfer these poor immigrants to his own mega-yacht (the S.S. Gerbil?) and sail them back home.
When we fail to lock up criminals, society becomes a prison. When we don’t institutionalize the insane, then society becomes the insane asylum. When we don’t stop foreign gangs and terrorists from entering our country, then we wake up to realize that we are living in El Salvador, Mexico, Pakistan or Iraq.

Sometimes (okay, many times) I wonder how stupid these celebrities are.  Remember in the days after 9/11 when Gere got up in front of crowd and told them we have to have compassion for the murderers? Somebody should have dropped on sixteen weight on his head then.
