14-Year-Old Uses Handgun To Defend Sisters From Intruders

    On Sunday, two men in a white sedan pulled up to a home in Blaine. One got out of the car and repeatedly tried to gain entry by trying to kick in the doors.

    Inside the home were three teenage girls, who responded by calling 911. They were home alone at the time, with their father at work and their mother at the store.

    At one point, the man who was trying to break in circled around to the backyard and was prepared to bust open a window with a shovel.

    When this was about to happen, the man and his driver began to start arguing. During that argument, the youngest of the teenage girls in the home, only 14 years old, had found and loaded the 9mm pistol.

She reportedly fired in the general direction of the two men, scaring them off.

One gun, one cartridge, likely saved the lives of three teen aged girls.  They were alive when their parents came home.  No dead bodies here.  Guns are good.

I thought this was was very interesting with all the push to have people lock their guns away and make them inaccessible to children.

Right now, so-called “safe storage” laws are all the rage in anti-gun states. I also kind of see why. When you no little about guns or using one in self-defense, you simply assume that it can be easily accessed should the need arise, but locking up a gun keeps it out of the “wrong” hands, be that burglar or child.

However, kids sometimes need to defend themselves too. While we have age limits on the sale of firearms, we don’t have age limits on defending your life. Nor should we.

Recently, a young woman may have proven just how wrongheaded safe storage laws actually are. She used a gun to protect herself and her sisters.

During that argument, the youngest of the teenage girls in the home, only 14 years old, had found and loaded the 9mm pistol.

So she was 14, so what?  She clearly understood that she should go for the pistol while the older sisters manned the rifles.

She reportedly fired in the general direction of the two men, scaring them off.

Now I see the problem.  She's clearly old enough to know better, but young enough there's time to fix her gun control problem.

Now I see the problem.  She's clearly old enough to know better, but young enough there's time to fix her gun control problem.

A little range time would save a lot of police looking for perps. But I am glad, for her sake, that she didn't have to shoot anyone. That doesn't come without a price, either, even if thoroughly justified.

I just watched a documentary about Ted Bundy on the tube over the weekend. They claim Bundy killed about 30 young women, but the actual toll might be double.
Bundy never shot any of his victims, bludgeoning them and/or strangling them to death. He thought guns and gunfire led to too many problems and ways detectives could figure out who was killing the young women.
I know Bundy surprised most of his victims, but I've always wished that just one of those young women had a gun on her.  Some of Bundy's victims survived his assaults. I wish  one of the many women he assaulted had pulled out a gun and blasted him before he could kill them.
Thank God those young women in this story had firearms.
Grown men can usually overpower a female victim. And it's unlikely a predator is going to try to assault a female whom he thinks can match him in strength anyway.
About ten percent of all homicide victims in the U.S. are women. They're mostly murdered by men who many times bludgeon or strangle the women.  A gun in their, the women, possession would be a great equalizer.
