Couple brought kids along while allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine

By César Rodriguez, LMTonline.com / Laredo Morning Times Updated 3:15 pm CDT, Saturday, August 10, 2019

U.S. Customs and Border Protection halted vehicular traffic momentarily to allow authorities to pay homage to those who lost their lives in the terror attack.

A couple tried smuggling about 72 pounds of cocaine while having their children as passengers, according to court documents.

A criminal complaint filed on Monday charged Mario Ramirez-Gomez, 48, and Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez-Esparza, 41, with import and conspire to import cocaine.

The case unfolded at about 8:15 a.m. Aug. 3, when Ramirez-Gomez, Gonzalez-Esparza and their children arrived at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge in a 2014 Chevy Traverse.
