A public hearing will be held on Monday, August 12 at 10 a.m.

The fallout of Speaker Dennis Bonnen’s backroom offer to Empower Texans CEO Michael Quinn Sullivan continues to escalate. This afternoon, the House General Investigating Committee announced it will hold a public hearing to begin an investigation into the matter.

The move comes after State Rep. Nicole Collier (D–Fort Worth), who serves as the committee’s vice chair, wrote to Chairman Morgan Meyer (R–Dallas) requesting that the committee look into the situation.

It didn’t take long for Meyer to respond, announcing just hours later that a public hearing would be soon scheduled over the matter.

“Last night, I initiated internal discussion with General Investigating staff about procedure, with the intention of launching an investigation,” Meyer said in his letter. “Our committee will be posting notice today of a public hearing which will take place on Monday, August 12.”

The hearing was set shortly after for 10 a.m. on Monday.

The General Investigating Committee is charged with investigating internal affairs in the Texas House. In addition to Meyer and Collier, State Reps. Candy Noble (R–Allen), Matt Krause (R–Arlington), and Leo Pacheco (D–San Antonio) also serve on the committee.
