White House to host roundtable on online extremism after mass shootings
By Emily Birnbaum - 08/07/19 11:16 AM EDT

The White House will host a meeting about online extremism with an array of tech and internet companies this week after a mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, was linked to an anti-immigrant manifesto posted to a fringe social networking platform.

Friday's meeting will come days after President Trump blamed the shooting in part on the issue of online radicalization. The suspected 21-year-old shooter in El Paso allegedly posted a racist screed to 8chan shortly before killing 22 people and injuring dozens more last Saturday.

"The White House has invited internet and technology companies for a discussion on violent extremism online," White House spokesman Judd Deere said in a statement.

Didn't they already do this after the shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School?

That was a focus on School Safety.

I don't think that he gathered these companies to discuss this particular topic...

I can't say that I understand what his angle is here....

Is he looking to get various entities shutdown, like they are trying to accomplish with the infinity chan?  If so, what is the gain in that?  Is someone assuming that if we don't allow people to express their evil thoughts and emotions on the Internet, then those evil thoughts and emotions are just going to simply disappear?

Or does he want to follow-on with that part that he talked about in his Monday speech....  about getting cooperation from these companies to "identify" the mass shooters based on their social media posts?  That sounds like a real winner....  yet another "algorithm" that will be developed to ensnare people for their thought crimes....  Sounds like that would work out really well for members of his base....

Just so as they focus equally on extremists on the Left as well, like ANTIFA as well as any group idolizing mass shooters. Any of these just as likely to have some nut to crack.
