@sneakypete posted a lot of speculation, and may have been correct. How does that change the fact that the Grandmother decided to turn the guy in? How does that change the fact that the guy had done the preparations needed to carry out his threat? She took him seriously enough to report him rather than try to talk him out of his plans. She took him seriously enough to set in motion a process that could land the guy in prison or a prison mental hospital for years.
