Rampant cocaine use among Navy SEALs revealed as another unit sent home from Iraq for drinking

The revelation of rampant cocaine abuse among members of SEAL Team 10 is the latest example of bad behavior within the Navy's elite special operations forces.
An internal Navy investigation disclosed that SEALs were able to get away with drug use by cheating drug tests — if they got tested at all. The report, obtained by the Navy Times, said six operators were caught for cocaine use in 2018.
"I never once got piss-tested on deployment or on the road, where I was using most often," one SEAL said. He admitted to using cocaine while in Buenaventura, Colombia, noting, "It was everywhere."
Navy SEALs have come under increased scrutiny recently, with questions about how some operators behave while deployed. In June, the war crimes trial of Special Warfare Chief Edward Gallagher revealed that members of SEAL Team 7 took pictures with the corpse of a teenaged ISIS fighter in 2018 and were drinking on deployment. Both are violations of military rules.
The unit had a bar on the roof of its base outside Mosul, Iraq, and the commander, Lt. Thomas MacNeill, would drink with his subordinates. MacNeill admitted during Gallagher's trial that he "drank with most, if not all, of the enlisted SEALs on the roof," where he "played DJ."
