Cummings: 'No doubt about it' Trump is a racist

House Oversight Committee Chair Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) said Sunday there was “no doubt” President Trump was a racist amid fallout over Trump's tweets attacking four congresswomen of color.

“No doubt about it,” Cummings said, when asked by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos if Trump was a racist.

“I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but when I think about what he said to these young ladies who are merely trying to bring excellence to government … when I hear those things it takes me back” to the era of segregation in the early 1960s, Cummings said on ABC’s “This Week.”

A charity run by the wife of Rep. Elijah Cummings received millions from special interest groups and corporations that had business before her husband’s committee and could have been used illegally, according to an IRS complaint filed by an ethics watchdog group.

Cummings, 68, a Maryland Democrat, is chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. His wife, Maya Rockeymoore, 48, is the chairman of the Maryland Democratic Party and briefly ran in the state's gubernatorial race last year. The couple married in 2008. Cummings was once heavily in debt — in part due to hefty child support payments to his first wife and two other women he had children with — but his financial situation has improved considerably over the past decade.

Rockeymoore runs two entities, a nonprofit group called the Center for Global Policy Solutions and a for-profit consulting firm called Global Policy Solutions, LLC, whose operations appear to have overlapped, according to the IRS complaint filed by watchdog group the National Legal and Policy Center on Monday. The complaint states that the arrangement may have been used to derive "illegal private benefit."  .  .  .

Looks like the NY Times got it wrong, as usual.  From your article, taken from a partisan left wing website and funded by George Soros which was set up to give legitimacy to lies as if they were true:

Weird.  I can't find a single reference confirming she won that award.  I did find one referring to some other Ellis Island award, but not the one Trump was given.

It is a mute point anyway.  Absent of any racist statement, action, etc. that Trump has made, I see no reason to label him as such.  There are a lot of things you can legitimately criticize Trump for being.  But 'racist' simply isn't one of them.  Dems will lie even when telling the truth sounds better.

Well stated @Hoodat.  The continual litany that Trump is a racist demonstrates that "racist" has lost any real meaning, and has become shorthand for anyone who is simply disliked, even momentarily, by progressives.

Trump does not assess and react to people according to their race, rather he assesses and reacts to people according to whether or not they flatter him.  He is not a racist, he is a narcissist.

Fortunately, there are many more things I can illegitimately criticize Trump for being, and I will.  Calling 50% of voters racist didn't win in 2016, but calling 75% of voters racists is almost certain to do the trick in 2020.  Frankly, you should be ashamed for defending Trump against the stuff I'm going to make up about him.
