We got our first color tv in 67. I’m pretty sure my dad got it so he could watch Star Trek in color.

When my Dad first got a color set, it was pointless because none of the TeeVee stations out in the sticks where we lived broadcast in color.  That was rectified a few months later.   It was before Star Trek, which was a great show for color.  The first season of Lost in Space was B&W, but Star Trek was in color from Episode 1.  They said Roddenberry ran on a shoe string budget at DesiLu, but Irwin Allen had his tight moments...Roddenberry knew full well the importance of color for a "space show" and insisted on color right from the start.

Man landed on the moon?
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

By doing the math I was also 13.  That was also the age that my parent's divorced, so had other things on my mind I guess as I don't remember watching it.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

A month and four days shy of my twelfth birthday, sitting on the rug in front of our black and white TV in a small town in central Pennsylvania.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

I was five.  Parents newly divorced a year earlier.  Mother was most likely passed out drunk on the couch that day.  Wasn't allowed to touch the TV.  So I didn't see it either.  I do remember the launch of Apollo 7 though because they wheeled a TV into my kindergarten room.  I was a year ahead.

I was 11 years old and watching along with my family on the family room TV (black and white, at that time).  I had a Polaroid camera and took pictures of the action as it happened. I have 12 such pictures, along with my handwritten notes on each. Here are three of them:

"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

I have two vivid memories of it... One, my father insisting I stay up, bleary eyed, and watch it... and the other, the very odd experience, the first of its kind for me, of walking into the classroom and seeing a TV set up in front of the classroom. This would have been central time zone, and I think the 'stay up late' one would be the real one... And I suppose some sort of replay following at school - But it is the school that I remember most.

When I was a school-age kid, we watched a number of NASA launches and splashdowns in the assembly hall at school.  But we saw them all live.   I don't recall seeing a repeat of the first moon landing at school the following fall.

In those days, schools recognized the importance of history and science, so these NASA missions were  a big part of that curriculum.  But then the media no longer covered every mission live -- maybe they merited a brief report on the evening news -- but that was it.  Then schools stopped teaching  history and science, or maybe taught some revisionist history, so that even if by chance kids do vaguely know something about these space missions, they really don't care.  They may have been taught that these missions wee a waste of money -- money that could be better spent on more gimmedats and free stuff.

I don't know - It was very long ago, and I do not recall - But I do know that the novelty of the class watching something is what etched in my mind, rather than the event. Go figger, eh?

All the bad girls went to Summer School, it was your only opportunity (as an ugly, skinny nerd) to get one up on the Jocks and those FFA $hits.

Sorry.  I did not mean to imply that you were wrong or you were lying.  Just saying how it was back when I was a young puppy and in the schools in my neck of the woods.  For us kids here, watching these NASA events weren't a novelty exactly, but rather, part of the curriculum.

And for many kids at that time and in that district, those events were a good way to get out of some boring English or math class.

That's right... It was just my first experience...
Later on, with the advent of VCR, it became more commonplace... And I don't remember any of that...

I looked up Times for landing and walking.  The lunar module landed on a Monday at 4:16pm CST and they took the first step at 10:56pm CST

The first crewed flight to and orbited the moon was in 1968. You might be mixing it up in your mind with the first flight that landed. That mission was very exciting at the time. I know we had televisions in the cafeteria and classroom watching then. That flight was in December.

Thanks @LilLamb.  For some reason I thought it was much later at night.  But I guess it went on for hours, so we didn't get to bed till the wee hours of the morning.
