One of my daughters is left-handed. We homeschooled our kids "K-12" and were not stupid enough to try to force her to be otherwise. She's partly ambidextrous, but it's been her choices rather than our pressure. She hates the tiny student desks in colleges even more than I do. I want more "real estate", she just wants to be able to write without her arm hanging in space. She's been in college on another continent for a couple of years, and I'm not sure what her desks look like now.

I have read/seen all versions of this from written material and seen news about this from the Georgia TV news station.  Putting this together, I think this is what happened:

1.  The Georgia representative was in the quick check-out and had more than 10 items which is the limit for quick check-out.  Why did she do this?  I would have it, too.  Why?  Because she was 9 months pregnant and she said she couldn't stand up very long.  Women will understand this.  At 9 mouths pregnant, she had already been standing up to go through the store, get what she needed, and she needed to get out of there, plus she also had a small child already out of the womb, with her, which makes her looking out for the already born child and taking care of the unborn child.

When I would have gotten to the check-out person I would have explained, due to a medical condition, being pregnant, I needed to get out of the store quickly.  Checkers are human, this one would have understood and helped her get out of the store.

2.  Some man was there and called her lazy, called her some kind of bitch, and told her to go back (I think he meant for her to get out of the quick check-out line since she had more than 10 items).  Her brain interpreted that as the famous, "Go back to your country."  I also read/saw the news, the man left the store and came back in again.  He wanted to continue the word fight.

I wonder if the man was married and had ever gone through pregnancy with a wife?  Where was his understanding of her condition?  He surely saw this lady was pregnant but the items over ten consumed him to make a scene, call her a lazy bitch, etc., leave and come back in to continue to harass her.

Story: My husband was in the hospital due to cancer and I was at the hospital all day with him; I was in my early 70s at that time.  When I left that evening, I was exhausted.  I went to Walmart to get more pajamas for him, and the check-out line was so long I could not stand there anymore.  I asked to speak to the manager and told him I needed the PJs but couldn't stand anymore; I asked did he have another checker?  He said what he had was all Walmart company would let him have.  He took me to an empty check-out lane, and checked me out himself.  If the man who confronted this pregnant woman had been there, he might have called me a lazy bitch and told me to go back where I came from - in the long line.

The Bible says love thy neighbor as thyself.  This man did not do this to the pregnant lady but the store manger did that to me.

Love you @Victoria33, but I'm calling BS on that.  The right, adult thing to do is to get in the correct line and not inconvenience other people.  Some of the rest of us have issues with standing and understand how grocery stores work and that we are not "special" or privileged over anyone else.

I have been terribly disabled, and I still don't get around all that good. So I get what you are saying.
But the sign says '10 items or less', not '10 items or less and handicap folks'.

The entire idea is to function as an express lane so that folks with few items don't have to stand and wait for folks with a full buggy... And 'full buggy' according to the game, is more than 10 items. It has nothing to do with your ability to stand and wait, and folks already give me plenty without me imposing myself. If you want to be fast, then limit yourself to 10 items.

Now that being said, I too have abused the 10 item rule, buying case lots... But that is different, and in the spirit of the express lane... It does no one harm for the lady to grab 1 can of chili, scan it through, and x23 with her keyboard... Sure it is technically more than 10 items... It is 24. But it is treated super efficiently, basically as a single case... I am not causing anyone to wait, and no one is offended.

The entire idea is to function as an express lane so that folks with few items don't have to stand and wait for folks with a full buggy... And 'full buggy' according to the game, is more than 10 items. It has nothing to do with your ability to stand and wait, and folks already give me plenty without me imposing myself. If you want to be fast, then limit yourself to 10 items.

That reminds me of something I don't like about the Self-Serve Checkouts.  I can't scan one and enter the 24x, I have to do them one by one, and I can't scan the next item until I put the previous one in the bag.  What a time waster.  And, if I buy beer I have to have an attendant clear the error.  They are invariably nowhere to be found when I need them. 

In either situation, I seek a manned lane and go there, even if the store has somebody trying to convince me to use the self check.

I don't go often, but when I do (usually in the wee hours) I load up on enough that they don't want to lose the sale (or put all that back, including things that don't do room temperature well). I get a human checker, even if the tills are all abandoned.

They probably remember you from the bad old days.  As for me, I'm just lazy AF.  But I don't abuse the express lanes, either.  It's hard not to when the Walmart decided it's good policy to have only one regular checker.  And no boys for boxes, either.
