Sanders: Medicare for All Will Cost $40 Trillion Over 10 Years

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) said on Tuesday that he estimates his Medicare for All plan would cost up to $40 trillion over 10 years.

"Somewhere between $30 and $40 trillion over a 10 year period," Sanders said, contrasting his plan with former vice president Joe Biden, "What the most serious economists tell us, that if we do nothing to fundamentally change the healthcare system, which is what Joe was talking about, keeping it as it is, we'll be spending something like $50 trillion over a 10 year period."

Sanders has previously said he would raise taxes, including for the middle class, that people would be happy to pay more taxes under his healthcare plan, and that "there will be pain" in a transition to a single-payer system.

This is a typical leftist tactic. The claim that if you don’t spend lots of money now you’re just gonna spend even more down the road. I can promise you that if Medicare for All was enacted, it would cost more than even the most generous of estimates.

Most Medicare patients also have supplemental insurance. I don’t think Bernie Sanders knows that. I also don’t think he knows Medicare for some is already facing  insolvency

His comment of people would be happy to pay more in taxes for his ideas  has been debunked by real world events. If people are happy to pay more taxes, why are middle-class people fleeing states like New York, California,  Illinois...? They tried this as a ballot initiative in Colorado and it went down in flames even amongst Democrats

Not to worry. 40 or 50 Trillion dollars just seems like  a lot of money,but once the Treasury starts printing 1,5,10, and 20 Trillion dollar notes,it won't seem like all that much.
