Trump says US shot down Iranian drone

President Trump on Thursday said a U.S. Navy vessel shot down an Iranian drone in a "defensive action" in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said the USS Boxer shot down the drone after it got within 1,000 yards, "ignoring multiple calls to stand down and was threatening the safety of the ship and the ship’s crew."

I just hope it was one of those ‘unmanned drones.’ We know how much he worries about killing Iranians.

USS Boxer, LHD-4 is a Wasp Class amphibious assault ship. She can can some 1700 Marines and several landing craft. She can also carry a wide variety of aircraft - various helicopters, AV-8B Harriers, and/or F-35s. The Wasp Class ships seem to be being used as light carriers that can also land a significant contingent of troops. They displace over 10,000 tons more than their Essex Class carrier namesakes.
