Senators want to know if the next Joint Chiefs chairman can stand up to Trump

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley speaks to soldiers at Qayyarah Airfield West, Iraq, in 2017. (Spc. Avery Howard/Army)

In a confirmation hearing that covered everything from budget to national security threats to sexual assault prevention, two senators used their time to level with the nominee for the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: How far are you willing to go to keep the president from doing something dangerous?

Army Gen. Mark Milley, currently the chief of staff of that service, told both that he would be willing to resign rather than follow an “illegal, unethical or immoral order.”

“We are not going to be intimidated into making stupid decisions,” he said. “We will give our best military advice regardless of consequences to ourselves.”

It's interesting and independent and democrat (liberals) are suggesting the military should not listen to decisions by the commander-in-chief.  Civilian control of the military is what has made the this country free from dictatorship and dangers overseas.  I'm sure there many in the military and congress that didn't want Truman to nuke Japan but did as they were instructed and helped bring the war to it's conclusion. :pondering:

Any US Senator that ignorant needs to be removed from office for cause.  The US military answers to the sitting President. The President doesn't answer to him or anyone else.
Anyone who isn't paranoid in 2021 just isn't thinking clearly!
