US, allies planning naval escort for Gulf tankers: Pentagon

AFP, Washington Thursday, 11 July 2019

The United States and its allies are discussing plans to provide naval escorts for oil tankers through the Gulf, a top US general said Thursday after Iranian military vessels menaced a British tanker.

General Mark Milley, nominated to become the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Senate hearing that the US has a “crucial role” in enforcing freedom of navigation in the Gulf.

Why is this not happening yesterday?
Don't call it the "Federal Government," that's an insult to the Founders.  It's a "National Government."
I will NOT comply.

I had this boss once, who liked to say, "fix the problem".

Why escort tankers when you can simply remove the threat to begin with?

Because..... to "simply remove the threat" would mean starting a nuclear war... ie WWIII.... quite probably.  This is a much nicer solution to the problem for all involved.

The Iranians seem to want another tanker war.

So does (I'm betting) the RL.  Anything they can use to lay blame onto Trump, ya know.

We sink the Iranian Navy.  Threat removed.   There's no need for us to go nuclear, and the best they could do is attempt a strike at Israel which would end in their utter destruction.

Operation Bound and Gagged is overdue.

Things are not quite that simplistic.   We live in a world of proxy wars now.  Iran has powerful allies, enemies of America with massive nuclear capabilities.  And it wouldn't be "us" going nuclear first.  Bottom line... it's not worth taking that risk of starting that last war.   Not time yet.

We throw down on Iran, no one is going to stand up for them in any serious fashion.  The only thing that's going to happen is a lesson will be taught that we're done with third world posturing.  Iran is a convenient tool as a thorn in our side, but only until we decide to remove it.

I'm not a fan of our initial misadventure into Iraq, but did any of their "allies" stand up and fight back?  What did Quidaffyduck do when we showed the resolve to take out saddam?  IIRC, they sent their nukes to North America.

Be that as it may..... wisdom dictates.... that when your enemy without (and your enemy within) is itchin for a fight....

don't give them what they want.
