El Salvador police officers charged with murder of transgender woman deported from US

This is bad,  I've read that Transgenders are discriminated against in Central America at least... but killed by police? I want to see more details and this is DC's "gay newspaper" I think but it came in on the news feed and it does seem significant.  Transgenders from Central America apply for asylum. I know of one case where it was granted. I saw in one story that a number of asylum requests were granted for transgenders.  Despite the source, A pertinent story.

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador — Three police officers in El Salvador have been charged with the murder of a transgender woman who was deported from the U.S.

The three police officers — Carlos Valentín Rosales, Jaime Giovanni Mendoza and Luis Alfredo — with El Salvador’s National Civil Police’s 911 System in San Salvador face charges of deprivation of liberty by an agent of authority and aggravated homicide as a hate crime in connection with Camila Díaz Cordova’s death earlier this year. The three men made their initial court appearance on July 5.

Díaz’s friend, Virginia Flores, told the Washington Blade Díaz was reported missing at the end of January.

Nobody else is currently running this story however, mainstream media did report on this person being killed when it initially happened.  She died on Feb. 3rd per the article.

A transgender woman from El Salvador who had been in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody died on Saturday.

An ICE press release says Johana “Joa” Medina Leon, who was identified by her birth name, passed away at a hospital in El Paso, Texas.

The press release says Medina, 25, “illegally” entered the U.S. at the Paso del Norte Port of Entry between El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, on April 11.

AFAIK,if they are here illegally,they would get deported like anyone else,and WHY would we allow them a visa knowing they would immediately go on public aid for surgery,medicines,etc,etc,etc?

Indeed. The one guy was sent back to his homeland because he broke U.S. law in trying to get into our country. Their mental health problems are not the issue, but it's certainly not our responsibility to provide their mutilation surgery. The one who died in U.S. custody was HIV positive. His story was reported by NBC News.
