Let me first say that I don't agree with anything  Epstein is accused of doing .

But aren't even the worst criminals  entitled to representation. Which he evidently had that obtained a good deal.

(Which I could never be a defense attorney.)

The entire sequence of events took place during the terms of GW Bush, and BH Obama. Each had AGs, FBI diretors, etc.

If Acosta did something then, that now looks wrong, it was done with the concurrence of his supervisors, up the chain of command.

Names like Meuller, Comey,Dersh, Starr, AShcroft, and others come up.

Acosta was involved, but not th principle decision maker.

I agree @truth_seeker.  One thing is for sure, the swamp is deeper and wider than even I imagined and THAT my friend is saying something!

That Swamp behaved/behaves much, much worse than I could have imagined. @Bigun

What from WBush, Cheney, Romney, Ryan? Silence. Not a peep.

No I don't believe they were complicit in the frame up, but I do think they hoped it would succeed.

That Swamp behaved/behaves much, much worse than I could have imagined.

That they had need for a "secret" taxpayer-funded slush fund for paying off accusers and lawsuits... many of which involved sexual abuse accusations... should have been our first clue as to how bad and how deep the swamp really is.

No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

 â€œI was told Epstein ‘belonged to intelligence’ and to leave it alone,” ...

@Bigun

I have no doubt whatsoever about that. The only question is "The intelligence of which nation?"

He didn’t say that.

Wait a damned minute?  Was this a STATE prosecution or not?  If so, what the hell was the FEDGOV doing negotiating plea deals in THAT case!  I'm confused?

edit to add after wading through the entire linked Miami Herald article I am STILL at a loss to explain why a conviction in state court ended an ongoing federal investigation.

A very large bag of worms with some very large fish involved seems to me.

Which is why I posted and said this on page 15....

Epstein's attorneys alleged in court that the deal, which covered the same time period as the New York charges, was made in consultation with senior Justice Department officials -- and was therefore understood by Epstein and his lawyers at the time to apply beyond the Florida district. They said the agreement will be "the centerpiece of our defense."

It was, said Epstein attorney Reid Weingarten, "an agreement that was consummated and agreed to all the way up to Main Justice at a very, very high level."

Man, there must be some big fish, with a lot of connections, at the end of that line.

The only explanation for this, based on the confusing information available, would be that someone very high up wanted this to be settled and over, quickly. There was obviously more going on and in other jurisdictions. It reeks. That press conference only created more questions than it answered.

'Completely wrong': Palm Beach prosecutor blasts Alex Acosta over Epstein case

“If Mr Acosta was truly concerned with the state’s case and he felt he had to rescue the matter, he would have forward with the 53-page indictment that his own office drafted,” he said. “Instead, Mr. Acosta brokered a secret plea deal that resulted in a non-prosecution agreement in violation of the Crime Victim’s Rights Act.”

[snip]

But Palm Beach police who handled the Epstein case last year told The Miami Herald, they were pressured by Mr. Krischer to reduce the case to a misdemeanor or drop it entirely.

@edpc

I agree. The only possible explanation I can think of to explain this is the "behind the scenes power-brokers" are having a "penis-measuring contest" over who gets the title of "He Man Stud".

You almost never see so many charges and counter-charges discussed in public against powerful people with influential friends/serfs.

This is more about management than it is politics.

To me, all that gives credence to Acosta claim that someone told him to back off because Epstein was an intelligence asset.
