Nike's 'Betsy Ross' sneakers selling for thousands on eBay amid controversy
By Tal Axelrod - 07/05/19 07:29 PM EDT

Pairs of Nike’s "Betsy Ross" flag-themed sneakers have received bids worth thousands of dollars after the company declared it would scrap plans to release them.

Nike said earlier this week it would nix the shoes’ release after former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and others said it should not sell a product with a symbol associated with America’s time as a country that employed slavery.

The shoes have emerged as a rallying cry among conservatives after Nike’s announcement, with many saying the situation signifies an era of political correctness run rampant.

One pair of the shoes listed on eBay had received a bid of $15,000, another garnered 37 bids and offers up to $5,100 and a third was listed at $2,500.
