By Rachel Frazin - 06/27/19 07:55 PM EDT

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) encouraged President Trump to refrain from personal attacks on his opponents and to instead target their policies.

"Thought long time how Trump can improve his approval rating majority of the people like his policies stick to policy don’t attack individuals but state why opponents policy wrong," Grassley tweeted Thursday before the second night of the first Democratic debates.

"Don’t denigrate them personally if somebody is stupid bite your lip," he added.
