President Trump's reelection campaign is firing several of its pollsters after internal numbers leaked that show Trump lagging behind top Democratic rival Joe Biden in key battleground states.

Anonymous sources told CNN and NBC that several were about to get the boot, though precisely who would be dismissed remained unclear.

The polls in question were conducted by the Trump campaign in March and leaked to various news outlets this month. They show Biden leading Trump by double-digit margins In Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida, Minnesota, Michigan, Maine, and Virginia. He is also behind Biden by smaller but still significant margins in Iowa, North Carolina, and Georgia. In staunchly Republican Texas, Trump leads by just two points.

Trump has been publicly angry over the reports on the leaked numbers and has reportedly castigated the pollsters behind the scenes. The president has alternately insisted in interviews over the last week that there was no truth that the polls showed him behind and that he did not believe the polls were accurate in the first place.

"It's incorrect polling," Trump told Fox News on Friday.
