BOLING—For Macie Oberhoff, the flooding in her town — which began after heavy rains Wednesday — was more “nerve-wracking” than the soaking from Harvey.

“With Harvey, it would back off a little,” she said of the flooding caused by the 2017 hurricane.

But on Wednesday, the 40-year-old mother said, even after the rain stopped the water kept rising in this town 55 miles southwest of Houston.

In the last few days, residents of the small Wharton County towns of Lane City and Boling, also known as Boling-Iago, said they have seen more water pouring into their communities than during Harvey. Lane City received 8.9 inches of water over the course of 24 hours, according to a Wednesday morning Facebook post from the Wharton County Office of Emergency Management.

The Oberhoff’s home was covered in about two inches of water after the rainfall. Though the Oberhoffs moved into their home in February of 2018, neighbors told them the house had not flooded during Harvey. By 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oberhoff said, the family’s chicken coop was halfway under water.

“It’s just not draining … not near like it has in the past,” she said of the water.
