Biden reverses stance on Hyde Amendment after blowback
By Jessie Hellmann - 06/06/19 08:20 PM EDT

Democratic presidential hopeful former Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday he no longer supports the Hyde Amendment, just one day after reaffirming his decades-long support for the ban on federal funding for abortions.

"If I believe health care is a right, as I do, I can no longer support an amendment that makes that right dependent on someone's ZIP code," he said at a Democratic National Committee gala in Atlanta.

Biden cited abortion restrictions recently passed by Republican governors for his change in position.

"I can't justify leaving millions of women without the access to care they need, and the ability to exercise their constitutionally protected right," he said.

Ought to be a great ad- flip flop after 24 hours. Biden won't be able to resist being pulled way left.

Alyssa Milano Helped Convince Biden to Flip-Flop on Hyde Amendment

Liberal activist and actress Alyssa Milano helped convince Joe Biden to flip-flop on his previous support for the Hyde Amendment.

The 2020 frontrunner, after taking fire from his party's left flank for supporting the banning of federal funding for most abortion procedures, abruptly changed his position on Thursday.

According to The Atlantic, that was in part due to Milano making a phone call to his campaign manager Greg Schultz:
Quote
Symone Sanders, one of Biden’s senior advisers, confronted him, she confirmed to me Thursday night, telling Biden that he was missing how his position disproportionately affected poorer women and women of color without easy access to abortion. Alyssa Milano, the actress who’s become a major online presence on issues of women’s rights as well as a friend of the Biden team, spoke by phone Wednesday to Biden campaign manager Greg Schultz, telling him the candidate needed to change. More calls came in, more tough conversations.
Biden said in Atlanta that recent pro-life laws passed in Georgia and elsewhere had convinced him to change his mind. This came after he told NBC News earlier in the week he still supported the Hyde Amendment, which is sharply opposed by his fellow 2020 candidates.  ...  Free Beacon

Biden Aide Struggles to Explain Flip-Flop on Hyde Amendment: ‘This Is Not a Decision About Politics’
BY: David Rutz
June 7, 2019 2:19 pm

Joe Biden communications director Kate Bedingfield struggled to explain her boss's abrupt shift on the Hyde Amendment this week, claiming Friday it wasn't about politics despite supporting the unpopular position within his party for decades.

Biden has long supported the Hyde Amendment, which bars federal funding for most abortions, citing his personal beliefs. Then last month, he appeared to tell an ACLU representative that he would end it as president, but he reaffirmed to NBC News this week that he supported it. After a fierce left-wing backlash, he announced Thursday he was against the Hyde Amendment, citing recent pro-life laws passed around the country.

The 2020 frontrunner was clearly alone among his fellow candidates on the issue before joining the fold. One New York Times reporter summed up Biden's dizzying views on the issue as "head-spinning."  ...  Full story at Free Beacon

He's hoping to get a sniff of her hair.
