Judge backs off order to release transcripts of Michael Flynn's conversations with Russian envoy

A federal judge backed off an order for the Justice Department to release the transcripts of wiretapped conversations retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn had with a Russian envoy.

Last week prosecutors also declined to produced unredacted portions of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation report that had to do with Flynn, who assisted Trump's 2016 campaign and briefly served as national security adviser in 2017.

In a brief court filing Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan said, "Upon consideration of the government's submissions in response to those orders, the government is not required to file any additional materials or information on the public docket pursuant to the Court's Orders of May 16, 2019."

The Justice Department provided little explanation for defying Sullivan's order last week beyond stating that the materials were not relevant to Flynn's sentencing.
