Greetings everyone, from New York City. I’m here for a couple of days for a book signing and FOX interviews. As the plane was coming in for a landing at NYC LaGuardia airport, and as I gazed over the impressive NYC skyline, I had a moment of reflection. Remember the show “Green Acres”? Yes, I am dating myself, but the title song went running through my mind:

    “Green Acres is the place to be, farm living is the live for me,

    “Land spread out so far and wide, keep Manhattan just gimme that Countryside.”

Thanks for the ping!  I'd have missed it.  Felt the same way when we departed Phoenix for the last time.  I never wanted to go to Hooterville though, The Castle city is more like Pixley.

I will admit nostalgia rising up for me, reading this article... I could almost hear the Statler Brothers singing 'Do We Remember These"...

In part, because it brought me back to Manhattan, Kansas, and to Tuttle Creek Reservoir - I have spent many a day (and night) right there... Long ago and far away.

Of course I agree with Allen West perfectly, only I would say, with far more emphasis and a dire outlook. The infection begins in the inner cities, that I think is true... But it extends now far beyond. Beyond the cubical working suburbs in every mega and medium city, right into small cities, and is beginning to capture larger towns.

The beast grows with every breath.

I'd like nothing better than to ride in to Hooterville about once a month... Maybe an hour away on gravel roads.

Thanks for the ping! A good piece, and sadly true in so many respects.

Instead of opening his mind as he escaped the entrapments of the big city, he would just bring it along, and eventually, like a locust, he would devastate the Green Acres.

And, when you think about it, that is what so many of these people fleeing the wastelands of humanity in our inner cities are doing.

The worst part being a standardized curriculum which proselytizes the same dismal message of victimhood and defeat rather than the overcoming hardship and triumph that built America, no matter who you are or what role you played. Of course, shedding the mantle of the nanny State is essential to accomplishment, and that is the most encumbering transplant of all.

Boy doesn't this say it all!

However, today, in our major American cities, where the Democratic Party has had control for countless decades, we do not find the same spirit. We find despair, despondency, depression, and the drive towards collective dependency. We see people stacked high upon each other in structures reaching up into the sky, denied the wide-open spaces of American liberty, freedom. We are constantly bombarded with the messages of what you cannot achieve, unless someone else gives it to you – yes, the enslaving theme of “free stuff.”

That is what is being destroyed. People have lost or are losing their souls.

Humans are the most invasive species in the planet.

There is a billboard in the freeway where I work. Invasive species...heading north to Montana...boat inspections are MANDATORY.

Cut off the welfare. Close the borders. Don't give people the "opportunity".

I CHOSE my way of life. I instilled it in my kids. Now my grandkids. My grandson tested out in some subjects at 6. Some at 6.5.  He is kind. He is mindful. He asked to be baptized. He just finished the third grade and is testing out at the sixth.

Because of people like him I find hope.

The rest? Cannon fodder.

Drop the birth rate low enough, discourage men from courting women, make childfree life glamorous... and they'll BEG for more immigrants!

In our inner cities we find the breakdown of the family. When we were in Manhattan, Kansas, Aubrey’s birthday parties were jam-packed with kids, and parents. In our inner cities, we see rampant crime, shootings, and murders. Yes, here in NYC, where Mayor Bill DeBlasio has made it almost impossible for a law-abiding citizen to own a firearm, bad guys find a way and terrorize the good people. In Chicago, the shootings and murders surpass combat zones, yet we hear nothing from the progressive, socialist leadership there on how to solve the issue … other than penalize law abiding citizens.

In our inner cities, the teacher’s unions rule, preventing our future generations from having a quality education, and parents from having a choice. Of course, these are the same inner-city minority communities where you will find a Planned Parenthood clinic, the progressive, socialist left’s desired choice.

Unfortunately for Mr. West, many of the same problems plaguing inner cities are making their way into the rural areas as well. There aren't as many kids, since the women of child-bearing age have been fleeing for better job opportunities... in the cities. Unions still dominate the public schools, and most rural areas are stuck with them since there are no real private options.

The one thing that hasn't overtaken rural America yet is crime, though that's largely because people are spaced so far apart and there's not anywhere near as much in value that it's simply not worth it. Drugs, alas, are quickly becoming an exception.

Man I wish that was true.  They are stealing tractors, 4 wheelers, horse trailers, etc more and more often.  Neighbors watch out for each other but we do have some space in between us.

This is so true. Now even the violent crime around here is on the increase.

Here is a major problem. There are households that are doing whatever and the police are called. If there are children involved (or merely present) then CPS is brought in. CPS isn't doing a thing about it. They treat it like some kind of reward. Used to be the LAST people you wanted involved was the STATE.
