As much as I hate to give “credit†to someone whose policies I loathe, I must admit that Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been extremely instrumental in the downfall of her party. She may be a pawn of the Justice Democrats, but she’s also the clearest representation of an underlying force within the party that has been essentially tamed until now. The hyper-leftist radical progressive wing of the party has been held in check for years, but between the 2016 election and the emboldened residue of Senator Bernie Sanders’s failed attempt to secure the nomination, this small wing is now in charge.
She’s not the ideological leader. She’s a figurehead with a strong social media presence to rally the base behind and around.
