U.K. leader Theresa May expected to announce resignation date amid Brexit backlash

London -- Beleaguered British Prime Minister Theresa May was expected to announce on Friday when she will resign, according to reports, following a mutiny in her Conservative Party over her handling of Britain's withdrawal from the European Union. May was set to meet the leader of group of hardline Brexit supporters from her own party and agree a timetable to stand down and allow a successor to be chosen from amongst the Conservative ranks.

The leader of the party automatically becomes the prime minister.

Multiple media reports said she intended to resign as leader of the Conservative Party within a few weeks, but to continue as caretaker prime minister until the party elects a new leader. ...
