I think "prepping / survival" should cover all the most basic crisis scenarios. While planning for an astroid strike or WWIII may be interesting and useful intellectual exercises, the more immediate scenarios are much more likely, and much more profitable to contemplate. Along with plans for dealing with a house fire, the loss of job, and a hazmat spill in your neighborhood, an active shooter scenario is worth contemplating-- especially if you have school age kids or work near a large attractive 'public space.'

Most folks who are concerned about a mass shooting have already heard a version of this. Here are my own notes.

Run
-leave the source of danger. Don’t try to get a better view

-leave by a different door than you came in. Seriously, there was a huge israeli study a couple of years ago and the big take-away from their research is that the survivors generally left by a different door than they came in. Casualties were generally leaving through the SAME door they entered. The researchers were not sure why this was the case, but suggested that shooters may plan to attack people as they flee through the most obvious exit. So leaving a different way means you won’t be with as large of a crowd perhaps.

-Put as many corners between you and the shooter(s) as possible. Don’t run straight down a long hallway and make a steady target in a shooter’s scope. This means leaving the building and not running across a large yard or playing field. Go around a corner.

-leave the property. Run and keep on running. Go take refuge in a different building, enter a private home if you have to. It’s OK for the people there to call the police.


Hide
-only do this if you have exhausted all possibility of running away. Running is your best hope

-Turn out lights, lock doors, and otherwise make your part of the building look as unused as possible. Shut off monitors and work stations. Turn off bathroom lights.

-move to a part of the room where you cannot be seen through a window or through the glass part of a door.

-lock any entryways. If the killer cannot see you, he probably cannot kill you.

-Hide someplace where a killer in a hurry won’t have time to investigate; or motive, for that matter, if he didn’t see which way you went. A closet you can lock, a basement full of pipes and storage. A warehouse or garage (that might have weapons you can improvise). One strategy that has saved lives is to got an an elevator and stop it using the emergency stop between floors. In sum, the perp is not going to invest huge amounts of time, and the opportunity to kill lots of victims, in finding you.

Fight
-When run and hide are no longer possible.

-find a weapon. Anything is a weapon; because your mind is the only true weapon; the material is merely an object you leverage to win. A full soda that you throw at the attacker to knock him off balance. An aerosol can of bug spray. A fire extinguisher shot in his face. A broom handle to his gonads. Fight dirty. win. Use surprise and your sense of desperation. Don’t just punch to contact your assailant—punch through him. Nothing is more surprising than the attack without mercy. As Mike Tyson said, “everybody has a plan until he gets punched in the face.” Win.

“Every member of this institution, Democratic and Republican, should join us to condemn the president’s racist tweets,” said Pelosi, speaking on the House floor.


Collins interjected unsuccessfully, but once Pelosi was finished speaking, made Pelosi an offer.

“I was just going to give the gentle speaker of the House, if she would like to rephrase that comment?” he asked.

Pelosi responded that she cleared her remarks with the parliamentarian before she read them on the floor.

That led to a lengthy stand-off on the floor and widespread confusion as to what was going on.

Finally, after a staffer could be heard saying to Cleaver, who was presiding over the House, that it was time to announce, “the chair is prepared to rule” and read a prepared statement, Cleaver instead said, “the chair is ready to make a statement” and set aside the printed remarks.

“I came in here to try to do this in a fair way. I kept warning both sides let’s not do this, hoping we could get through,” the Missouri Democrat said, adding, “We don’t ever, ever, want to pass up an opportunity, it seems, to escalate. And that’s what this is. I dare anybody to look at any of the footage and see if there was any unfairness, but unfairness is not enough because we want to just fight.”

Cleaver’s decision to abandon the chair appeared unprecedented, at least in recent history.

“I’ve not seen it before,” said House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, D-Md., before taking the gavel himself to resume proceedings. Hoyer has served in the House since 1981.

Citing a precedent from May 15, 1984, Hoyer ruled against Pelosi, that “the words should not be used in debate.”

Collins then moved to strike Pelosi’s words from the record, leading to another vote on the matter. The House rejected Collins’ motion to strike the words from the record.

I was prayerfully pondering this glaring issue a few years ago. It grieved my spirit a lot.

It was particularly troubling that it has been such an intensely felt problem of such long standing. Occasionally Christians talk about it or even write articles about it. Occasionally one hears something in a sermon with a more Biblical comment or slant on it.

Yet, on “the whole, it seems that the problem worsens and refuses to go away.

Are we to conclude that the !!!TRADITION!!! of UnBiblical manipulations about money are not a significant problem to Almighty God Yehovah?

I should THINK NOT!

He may not have decided yet to make it such a burning issue as to start flinging lightning bolts to correct it. That's not any kind of reliable evidence HE has NO strong feelings about the matter.

As I was prayerfully pondering these issues, this almost sorrowful Fatherly voice spoke in His still small way in my spirit:

"I'M NO BEGGAR."

It took me up short. THAT, in a nutshell, was the crux of it.

Throughout the whole of the Bible, God proved Himself to be exceedingly GENEROUS--routinely displaying LAVISH GENEROSITY to those WHO LOVED HIM and showed it.

Evidently King David and Solomon were both Trillionaires in today's terms. Yehovah's Friend, Abraham, was no slouch in the wealth department, either.

In the New Testament, we may not have Biblical Stars known for their earthly wealth. Yet, there were many wealthy Believers who figured significantly in the Gospels and in Paul's letters. Christ was buried in a wealthy man's tomb.

And the Wealth of Christ's Gift of Himself surpasses all the multiverses in existence.

Yet, it is difficult to think of more than a handful of services in my 72 years where there was 0.0% manipulative coercion to give; where there was absolutely ONLY an indication that GOD WAS NO  BEGGAR.

Instead, there was at least subtle to not so subtle strong-arming of parishioners to cough up the dough.

And in far more services than I can even remember, the intensely strident, fiercely intimidating manipulations to get as much money as possible from the folks in the pew were off the scale. It was disgusting. Eventually, I wouldn't sit still in such services and walked out.

If I came across such on TV or radio, I had a strong tendency to turn the program off or at least mute it until the travesty and insult to God's generosity was over.

As I continued to prayerfully ponder such issues, it became clear to me that one of God's most fiercely held stances on the topic is that:

WHEN WE MAKE GOD OUT TO BE A BEGGAR--SO STRIDENTLY BEGGING "IN HIS NAME,"

WE DEMONSTRATE OUR WHOLESALE LACK OF TRUST IN HIS PROVISION AS YEHOVAH JIREH--OUR PROVIDER.

THAT WOUNDS HIS HEART. THAT was likely the source of the sadness as He spoke His still small voice that day:

I'M NO BEGGAR.

Therefore what?

This short book explores these issues in clear, practical terms.
Some will likely feel edified.
Some will likely feel offended.
Some may well feel outraged, affronted.
Some will likely feel redemptively exhorted.
Some will likely feel challenged to mend their ways.

Hopefully, at least most, will likely be caused to THINK and ponder these important Biblical issues and foundational truths about how we relate to God with regard to our money; our handling of our money and how our Christian groups treat money before a keenly watching world.

I encourage candid comments in the reviews. God calls us to be iron sharpening iron for one another. May the dialogue about these issues and this book be a good example of that.

EVIDENTLY! LOL. Sigh.

It does get a bit discouraging to USUALLY have 30+ windows open over 2 browsers. Even when I watch 2 videos at one time (one on 1.25 or 1.5 speed and one on mute with CC on), it still takes a LOT of time to wade through such lists of sources. And that's trying to bother with only about the top 0.01% of what might be worthy of interest.

I often jump 5, 10 or 15 min through videos because I already know most of what is mentioned or because the meat is interspersed with a lot of far less important stuff.

It STILL takes a lot of time.

And, many times, I don't enjoy getting to the end of yet another 12 or so hours of such work and asking myself if I'm just indulging myself in a strange 'mental masturbation' obsession. I don't like that feeling or thought. LOL.

I have cut back on such long hours exclusively dedicated to such tasks. I intersperse the videos with a wider range of topics of interest to me--often including music, science videos, UFO's, travelogues, etc. That has helped.

And, I've been better at getting up and watering in the garden etc.

Then there's the too often frustrating tasks involved with online book publishing etc. etc. Thankfully, Amazon's software has become more & more user friendly & refined but is still not perfect.

I have about 5 significant photo manipulation software packages for such efforts and all of them have a steep learning curve and none of them seem to easily or well handle putting simple text on a photo. That seems to be exceedingly stupid of the authors of such software, to me. That should be one of the EASIEST tasks, not one of the most challenging with the steepest learning curve. Dumb. Frustrating.

I think all those 'other task' changes are efforts at taking better care of myself . . . maybe except the frustrating things involved with the book publishing.
