 Nadler accuses Trump of witness intimidation, threatens legal action over McGahn testimony
By Morgan Chalfant and Olivia Beavers - 05/21/19 11:19 AM EDT

House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) accused President Trump of witness intimidation on Tuesday and threatened legal action to enforce his panel’s subpoena for public testimony from former White House counsel Don McGahn.

“He took to Twitter to call Mr. McGahn a liar. His lawyers went on cable television to do the same,” Nadler said at a brief committee hearing that was supposed to feature McGahn’s testimony.

“In short, the president took it upon himself to intimidate a witness who has a legal obligation to be here today," he added. "This conduct is not remotely acceptable.”

Nadler gaveled into the hearing at 10 a.m., despite McGahn’s attorney notifying him late Monday that the former White House official would not appear for public testimony at the direction of the White House.

Looking around at the spectacle that IS the current crop of Democrats... I had to laugh.  Not just at the ugly, but at the sublimely stupid they display.  That said, it would be reckless to underestimate their ability to inflame their equally ugly and stupid 'base'.  Let's not make that mistake.

Please.  Don't tempt me to make an 'evil wish'.  I have enough trouble already.   :smokin:

I am fairly certain McGahn is now a private citizen and can make his own decision as to whether he will appear. If the administration still held heavy sway over him, he would not have declined to issue a statement, regarding his personal conclusions about obstruction, when asked.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

Provided it does not violate a NDA.  Testifying about what he saw and did in the White House would be such a violation, provided a NDA exists.  The fact that he's a private citizen now does not mean he can shed light on the Rats quest for Trump dirt.  I think future court action will turn on whether the NDA has to be honored.  McGanh probably doesn't want to answer any questions at all to avoid that fight.

Cliff Sims had signed an NDA. He still released his book Team Of Vipers, anyway. The only thing they cannot really do, after departure, is divulge classified information.

Sounds about right.  The Rats want to ask McGhan questions about classified info, then feign anger that he's "hiding something."  They already demonstrated a willingness to do this with Barr.

I don't know what McGhan really wants to do.  He may want to shovel dirt on Trump, like Cohen.

The impression I got from McGahn was he did not appreciate being put in certain situations or asked to do certain things. Specifically, I don't believe he trusted that he wouldn't have been thrown under the bus, if he had dismissed Mueller. I believe he wanted to be transparent with investigators, about his time at the White House. In the end, he seemed satisfied with Mueller's conclusion about his role in everything.

@Cyber Liberty

McGhan took his personal attorney with him when he met with Mueller for a total of 30 hrs. He did that without informing Trump.

@Victoria33

That was different because Mueller worked for the Executive Branch and the current demands come from Congress where there is a separation of powers issue.
