San Francisco Residents and Tourists Criticize Needle and Human Waste Problems

SAN FRANCISCO—Hypodermic needles and human waste littering the streets of San Francisco have become an increasingly common occurrence.
 

A recent project by Open the Books mapped out all the needle and human waste reports, showing a sharp rise in the number of cases across San Francisco.

“The city admits that they estimate there is 7,500 homeless people in the streets of San Francisco, and by all accounts, these are the folks that are not using public restrooms, but are going to the bathroom and leaving their medical debris on the streets,” explained Adam Andrzejewski, CEO and founder of Open the Books.

Open the Books, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing transparent information about government spending and actions, analyzed a San Francisco database of 311 calls between 2011 to 2018.

I wonder how many of those homeless in SF are from Hawaii...?  I seem to recall that Hawaii had "migrated" many or most of their homeless population to the mainlands.  I'm betting California was the recipient of most of that "little gift".

Judging by the size of the tent cities around Honolulu, I'd guess they kept several of their homeless and/or created additional ones.

San Francisco is the nation’s leader in property crime. Burglary, larceny, shoplifting, and vandalism are included under this ugly umbrella. The rate of car break-ins is particularly striking: in 2017 over 30,000 reports were filed, and the current average is 51 per day. Other low-level offenses, including drug dealing, street harassment, encampments, indecent exposure, public intoxication, simple assault, and disorderly conduct are also rampant.

Many in law enforcement blame the crime wave on Proposition 47, which in 2014 downgraded possession of illegal narcotics for personal use and theft of anything under $950 in value from felonies to misdemeanors. Anti-incarceration advocates disagree with that argument, but theft is indisputably booming, and narcotics activity is exploding on sidewalks, parks, and playgrounds. When compounded with other troubles for which the city is now infamous (human feces, filth, and homelessness, which is up 17 percent since 2017), San Franciscans find themselves surrounded by squalor and disorder. ...

Property and other supposedly low-level crimes are intensifying the destruction of the retail market. Landmark Mission District stores are shuttering, citing theft and lack of security. In April, CVS closed two pharmacies that had been ravaged by constant shoplifting. Mom-and-pop businesses, wracked by so-called minor losses, find it impossible to survive. Fine..I hope the citizens  have their noses rubbed in it. They voted for the scoundrels who run their city, now they can enjoy the consequences.
It's too bad for the small minority of conservatives/law-abiding people, but liberals have to be shown the error of their ways. If that helps....which I kind of doubt.  Reality is not their strong point.

Here in Seattle over the weekend which shares the same problems, a family visiting from out of state was in line for the waterfront aquarium when a crazy women holding a full hypodermic needle approached the young daughters and said which one of you want this. This caused  the girls to scream which caught the parents attention. They were unharmed, but this could have gone real bad.

Of all the things you might want to symbolise your city, the human turd is pretty much bottom of the list. Yet San Francisco, the hi-tech capital of world, is indelibly marked by the association.

If you Google the words “gentrification” and “excrement” (though mind how you go), news stories about the Golden City predominate. For instance, Forbes has an informative briefing on the issue by Adam Andrzejewski, CEO of OpenTheBooks.com. We learn that “since 2011 there have been at least 118,352 reported incidences of human fecal matter on [San Francisco] city streets”. A tastefully brown-coloured bar chart of “human feces incidents” shows that this is a growing problem – the bars get longer every year.  ...

It’s not just the obvious consequences this has on homelessness, it’s also that runaway rental values are driving out the workers and businesses that a city needs to function as a community and flourish as a culture – especially a place like San Francisco whose character depends upon its diversity.  ...

Needless to say, San Francisco’s supposedly progressive politics is rotten with nimbyism. Farhad Manjoo points out the hypocrisy:
   

“Not-in-my-backyardism is a bipartisan sentiment, but because the largest American cities are populated and run by Democrats — many in states under complete Democratic control — this sort of nakedly exclusionary urban restrictionism is a particular shame of the left.”

Not that we can expect the Republicans to do much about the problem either – after all, there is a property developer in the White House. But perhaps the biggest failure is that of the tech industry. In one sense, they are the victims too – with landlords creaming off the value created by genuine entrepreneurs. One response is to join the landlord class. But those who still believe in generating wealth as opposed to extracting it should get up and leave.  ...

The insanity means if the homeless addicts run out, their numbers  are refilled by illegal immigrants drawing upon costly public resources.

The word on the streets is many of the homeless, have been curbed-stranded in costly California, no money to et home, note "cured" of their addictions.

In the youtube video titled "Seattle is Dying,," police state (anonymously) that 100% of homeless are addicts, and they will lose their jobs for speaking the truth.

And the truth is they do little-nothing, since their higher ups tie their hands.

If they put them in jail, they get out very soon.

If a judge says the jails are overcrowded, they let them out. So the cops don't bother. Why risk harm even touching the addict, who might be crazy, waiting for the chance to stab the cop with a needle?
