Judge upholds House panel subpoena for Trump financial records

District Judge Amit Mehta on Monday ruled in favor of a subpoena issued by the House Oversight Committee for President Trump's financial records from the accounting firm Mazars.

In a 41-page-long opinion, Mehta found that "President Trump cannot block the subpoena to Mazars."

Trump's attorneys had argued that the subpoena was unconstitutional because it wasn't tied to legislation. But attorneys for the House said that the records will help strengthen ethics and disclosure laws and see if Trump is in compliance with the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution.

"These are facially valid legislative purposes, and it is not for the court to question whether the Committee’s actions are truly motivated by political considerations," Mehta wrote.

The Obama appointed judge in this case took a very unusual step in speeding up the case.

The Dems with the aid of an over reaching Judicial branch want to speed this up and try to nail the President.

Talk about desperation.  Not to mention the illegality of accessing his personal tax records.

There is no reason for Congress to get them except to try and sling mud.

A district judge on Monday upheld a subpoena issued by the House Oversight and Reform Committee for President Trump's financial records, dealing a blow to White House efforts to resist the Democrats’ investigations.

In a 41-page opinion, Judge Amit Mehta, an Obama appointee, found that the panel, under the leadership of Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), had valid reasons for requesting the president’s financial records from the accounting firm Mazars, even though they predated his entering office.

"These are facially valid legislative purposes, and it is not for the court to question whether the Committee’s actions are truly motivated by political considerations," Mehta wrote.

The accounting firm seemed willing to comply with the original subpoena, so they won’t ignore it. Like it or not, Trump’s intransigence gave Congress the opening to make the request on legislative grounds. They can always legitimately say they are working on potential legislation to require financial transparency, from a presidential candidate. IMO, it should apply to all elected officials, but we have an amendment applying term limits, but only to the executive branch.

Pretty much everything you wrote is true,but none of it really matters. This is about "red meat for Dim voters and potential voters",not truth,facts,or even convictions. Ok,I was skeptical at first,but how can any panel chaired by  Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) be anything other that fair,open,and unbiased?

When are weuns with the misfortune of being born white going to start realizing that our brown and black masters are always right,and will be the best and mostest fair masters we can ever hope to have?

They’re looking for something they can use under the Emoluments clause to nail him for profiting from his hotels while in office.
