Regarding Justin Amash and Kevin McCarthy

by Erick Erickson

May 20th, 2019

The House Republicans are led by a lightweight whose hair spray is stronger than his moral convictions.

Whether you like Justin Amash or not, he is inarguably one of the more principled members of the Republican conference in the House of Representatives. Amash is willing to take unpopular stands in the name of principle. He is willing to defy his party because of those principles. Amash is one of the more easily predictable members of Congress in how he votes because of his principles.

Amash believes in the rule of law, limited government, and an originalist interpretation of the constitution. As a result, Amash frequently turns his back on the bandwagon and team efforts of the GOP that lead to explosive growth in government, unsustainable debt, and expanded federal powers at the expense of state government and individual liberty. Plenty of popular programs have been opposed by Amash because he does not see where Article I, Section 8 of the United States Constitution gives Congress the power to approve them.

In that regard, we need more congressmen like Amash. Since going to Congress, Justin Amash has used social media to articulate why he supports or rejects pieces of legislation and how he evaluates issues. He is one of the most transparent members of congress in that regard.

Republican Justin Amash Tweets New Thread Calling for Trump's Impeachment

Despite backlash from Donald Trump and Republican leadership, Representative Justin Amash has renewed his calls for impeachment and explained why the president’s supporters are wrong about his innocence.

In a series of tweets on Monday, the Republican congressman from Michigan slammed Trump supporters for ignoring the facts of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on the Russia investigation.

“People who say there were no underlying crimes and therefore the president could not have intended to illegally obstruct the investigation—and therefore cannot be impeached—are resting their argument on several falsehoods,” Amash wrote.

Amash added that there were “many crimes” revealed by Mueller’s two-year probe into Russian election interference and while not all of them were prosecuted they were detailed in the 448-page redacted report.

I think the analysis of the fine legal minds like Mark Levin and Joe DiGenova are more correct than that of Amash.
Principles matter. Words matter.

Self-serving P.O. S.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Don't know what to think about Rep. Amash.  I don't know the man.  It could be he was just giving his opinion and like all of us, his opinions aren't worth a hill of beans in the long run.  Don't know if giving an opinion some here might not like makes him a bad guy.

Personally, I doubt there will be an impeachment, despite all the hot air coming particularly from the Democrats  It requires too much effort and the lazy lumps in both houses of congress don't really want to exert themselves.  Plus, it seems to be next to impossible to get a conviction.  Look at all the hoopla over Bill Clinton.  After all that, he skated.  If there are any proceedings, they will happen after Trump leaves office.

A lot of Rats think an Impeachment effort, even a failing one, will ensure Trump's defeat in 2020.  Therefore, they will try.

Well, with a Republican majority in the senate, the dummies in the house could try, but there would be no conviction.  They would have to wait until the senate is back in their control.

I think the malcontents know this, but they are talking impeachment to energize their base and to garner more support among independents and undecideds for next year's election.

His record speaks for itself. He is a constitutional Libertarian leaning Republican who has one of the best track records in Congress.
