Mishaps involving military aircraft that range from minor injuries to fatal crashes increased by 40 percent from 2013 to 2017, after budget cuts, according to an analysis of data by the Military Times. Separately, the U.S. General Accounting Office raised concerns about the Department of Defense’s ability to learn from those incidents.

The crash of an F-16 into a warehouse Thursday, May 16, near March Air Reserve Base near Riverside is under investigation. Before the crash, the pilot reportedly radioed to the base tower that he was having difficulty with the plane’s hydraulics, which help control aircraft. The cause of the crash has not been announced.
