Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy holds the Ukrainian symbols of power during his inauguration ceremony in Kyiv on May 20.

-- Volodymyr Zelenskiy has been sworn in as president of Ukraine and immediately announced he is dissolving the parliament.

-- Dozens of Crimean Tatars marked the anniversary of the Stalin-era deportations from the Black Sea peninsula on May 18, with police warning participants that the event was unauthorized but otherwise not interfering.

Volodymyr Zelensky: Comedian-president calls snap election

Comedian Volodymyr Zelensky announced a snap parliamentary election during his swearing-in as Ukraine's new president.

The election was expected to take place in October 2019. But at the ceremony in Kiev Mr Zelensky said "I am dissolving the Verkhovna Rada (parliament)".

He said ending the conflict with Russian-backed rebels in the east would be his top priority.

The Chechens just had their remembrance of when Stalin moved them en masse and to be fair, Stalin accused them of collaborating with the Nazis; but the point remains, the Soviets then, moved into some of these lands...I don't know the history, in some cases like the Baltics, moved in Russians and there are tensions in the Baltics over this.  But back to the mai nstory, agree with Zelenskiy, Crime and Donbas are of the Ukraine.

Putin with-holds comments until he sees where country will be headed.
