India election: Violence erupts in Calcutta before polling

Dozens of people have been arrested and scores injured after violent clashes broke out in the Indian city of Calcutta between supporters of rival parties ahead of the final round of voting in the country’s general election.

Fighting broke out between supporters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of the prime minister, Narendra Modi, and the rival Trinamool Congress (TMC), which governs the crucial battleground state of West Bengal. Buildings were ransacked, statues torn down and vehicles set ablaze as street battles raged.

Just a note, the Calcutta area is undergoing such violence (and from what I perceive not sectarian religious violence), the campaigns will not go to that state.  This region may be called Bengali. Anyway, it is fascinating, I just don't know too much about it.
