Omar Demands More Gun Control in Wake of Colorado School Shooting

By Guest Author | May 9, 2019 9:24AM

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota is demanding for more gun control in the wake of the Colorado school shooting on Tuesday at the STEM School Highlands Ranch.

Omar tweeted, “I am heartbroken about this shooting in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. We cannot allow ourselves to become accustomed to this violence, we must act and pass gun safety reform now.”

Omar and the other liberals calling for more gun control are not mentioning the fact that Colorado already has universal background checks, which Democrats insist0 is key to preventing these kinds of shootings. The state also has a ban on “high capacity” magazines.

Do they have gun control in Somalia where she came from?  Does Islam have gun control?  How does she feel about the Somali cop shooting the Australian woman which forced Minneapolis to pay a $20 million settlement?  The woman wasn't American but was white so, based on her other comments, she probably feels that was okay. :osama:

FWIW.………….my family lives in Colorado.   My friends live in Florida.
in the aftermath of the Parkland shootings the students demanded gun control.
In the aftermath of the STEM School shootings the students protested any mention of gun control and demanded mental health assistance.
The two cultures are opposite each other. CO has a law...…...MAKE MY DAY...…...which means you can shoot to kill if you feel threatened.    The very name of the bill suggests a mentality alien to most other states.
For the most part people believe in self defense but don't believe MAKE MY DAY is an appropriate name for self defense.
Just my observation with regard to the two school killings.

@Rivergirl exactly.
In FL you had an Attention Hogg and the lesbian.  Entitled dipsticks.  In CO you have heroes who refused to cower in fear, took action and told the and Rat politicians (and the press) where to stick their gun control narrative..

Humans are not far from the time they used violence to kill dinner.

And maybe the time they killed each other, to get to keep the kill (from the others).

There ddeeloped certain moral codes, to regulate human bhavior.

Even primatives learned  to not kill each other for food or wives, or for fun or fame.

In Colorado, the students charged the attacker, and then, the attack on their Rights.

There's hope for America yet.

If society had any true wish to stop these school shootings, We would make them a Capital offense, mandatory death sentence, no appeal.

Jury trial within a month of the crime.

All court cases in district would be pushed back to accommodate a very speedy trial.

Sentence carried out on main street of effected town, day after court verdict.

Media not allowed in court, but o.k. at execution site.

My guess is liberals would prefer the kids get killed and then push their gun confiscation agenda,

rather than kill a convicted school shooter.

Certainly the shooter had a license to carry and his weapon(s) was legally obtained and registered?

Neither killer in CO had a legal firearm.   You cannot purchase a handgun in CO at the age of the killers.   You can purchase a long gun in CO at age 18 but not a hand gun.
The girl who arrived in CO to commit killings as in Columbine legally purchased her shotgun in CO.
She was 18 yrs. old if I recall.   That entire area was in lockdown with no children attending school until she was found to have committee suicide.

Hurling insults at those with whom you disagree solves nothing but if it makes some people feel better about themselves...…….it says a lot about that commenter.

Meanwhile (and I love our new governor) ... Governor Ron DeSantis signed SB-7030 within hours after receiving it.  SB-7030 contains the language that authorizes local school boards to allow classroom teachers to go through training and carry firearms on school campuses.

News reports suggested that "Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America" and another Bloomberg group, "Students Demand Action for Gun Sense in America," were apparently pushing on Governor DeSantis to veto SB-7070 -- the wrong bill.

According to News Service Florida, the "Demand" groups delivered a stack of signatures to the Governor's office urging the Governor to veto a bill that would arm classroom teachers.  It further reported that a DeSantis employee was asked by the group to tell the Governor to veto SB-7070 because it expanded the "guardian" program.  THAT'S THE WRONG BILL!

Not only is their anti-gun reasoning flawed, their legislative information is wrong.  SB-7070 is the K-12 Education Bill.  :rolling:

As usual, Omar is a day late and about 100 IQ points short. These killers STOLE the weapons. What will gun control do to prevent that?

The school shooter is a handy crisis to be used. The Liberals/Socialists/Communists are playing the long game, they'd much rather disarm us all, then pick and choose who to kill.

A Democrat demanding gun control after a tragedy is not even newsworthy anymore
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

True.  Mot of the time they don't even wait till the shooting stops before they crawl out of the woodwork demanding gun control.  It's a permanent, knee jerk reaction to every incident of violence.

Thing is, what gun control laws in existence did nothing to prevent this shooting.  I heard that according to the law, these punks were too young to legally procure firearms.  So where did they get the guns and how did they acquire them?  This incident is proof that if someone wants to commit a violent act with firearms, they can find a way to get their weapons.  No law will prevent that, but it will prevent decent, law abiding citizens from obtaining the means to defend themselves.

The logic is so simple, like her mind, if no one had guns then these two mental defectives couldn't have stolen them to kill people. Of course totally ignoring the fact that no one would have the means to defend themselves against criminals.....................or an abusive government, this idiot totally ignores that the mental defectives would have just used knives, swords, bombs, a car, etc. to achieve their goal. The school kids had it right, the mental issues of these killers was ignored just like other previous shooters.

You don't think Parkland is representative of FL as a whole, do you?  That's like saying all of CO is like Denver.

FL was the first State (at least in modern times and codified in law) to extend the Castle Doctrine outside the home (Make my Day still ends at the front door doesn't it?), and the first and AFAIK the only State to put the burden of proof on the prosecution in Stand Your Ground cases.

My comments were ONLY about the reaction of the students at the scene of the killings.
Clearly the students do not represent their entire state or even their communities.
It was simply my observations   Am I not allowed even that here?????????????????
