Some people are just record-breaking stoopid. Maybe even "3 o stooopid".
I am an Agent Orange veteran rated as being 100 percent service-connected due to Agent Orange exposure and other issues being treated in local hospitals because the VA hospital is 75 miles away and doesn't treat cancer anyhow, and am being treated for lymphatic cancer, which IS the primary form of cancer related to Agent Orange exposure.
The VA is refusing to pay my medical expenses because I went to the ER at the local hospital instead of taking an ambulance 75 miles to the VA hospital, where they would have just transferred me to a local hospital there. The excuse they use is I didn't notify them within 24 hours of being admitted. Seems like nobody explained to them that someone in intensive care has the time or the ability to look up the phone numbers and make the necessary calls. Not to mention the lack of clarity due to the drugs being given to me in intensive care.
I let them get away with this when I had the flesh-eating bacteria problem, and spent the next 4 years spending every dime I had to pay off the medical bills not paid by medicare, but I am NOT going to let them slide on this one.
