Earlier today, I was reading some tweets and found where a poster @GeoffThorne  had tweeted the following to conservative Candace Owens (a black woman):
Quote
@RealCandaceO @robsmithonline they will never accept you. they will never think off you as anything but an obedient n***er. you will never be one of them. they see you as a trained animal that does the right tricks. one can only pray you never realize because, if you do, what's left of your soul will crack.
He used the actual word, not asterisks.

Needless to say, many people were outraged. I filed an abuse report. Twitter's response:

We’re reviewing your report now. In the meantime, here are some actions you can take to make your Twitter experience safer:

Don’t respond to this person -- this may encourage this person’s behavior.
Use block (https://help.twitter.com/using-twitter/blocking-and-unblocking-accounts), a feature that prevents this person from contacting you or seeing your content while logged into Twitter.
Use mute (https://help.twitter.com/using-twitter/twitter-mute), a tool that helps you tune out what this person is saying, without the person knowing you’ve muted them.
If you think you're in immediate danger based on the Tweets you’ve received, we strongly encourage you to contact law enforcement. We’re here to help you give law enforcement the information they need (https://help.twitter.com/rules-and-policies/twitter-law-enforcement-support).

We do not tolerate behavior on Twitter that harasses, intimidates, or uses fear to silence another person’s voice. Learn more about our policy and how we enforce it: https://help.twitter.com/rules-and-policies/hateful-conduct-policy.

Hello,

Thank you for your recent report. We have reviewed your report carefully and found that there was no violation of the Twitter Rules against abusive behavior.

There are a number of factors we take into consideration when deciding whether to take action on content:

Context matters

Some Tweets may seem to be abusive when viewed in isolation, but may not be when viewed in the context of a larger conversation. While we accept reports of violations from anyone, sometimes we also need to hear directly from the target to ensure that we have proper context.
The number of reports we receive does not impact our assessment of whether something violates the Twitter Rules.

We focus on behavior

In order to ensure that people feel safe expressing diverse opinions and beliefs, we do not tolerate behavior that crosses the line into abuse, including behavior that harasses, intimidates, or uses fear to silence another user’s voice.
Additionally, we enforce policies when someone reports behavior that is abusive and targets an entire protected group and/or individuals who may be members. This targeting can happen in multiple ways (e.g., mentioning someone, tagging someone in a photo, and more).

If, after you filed this original report, this person Tweeted additional content that you believe to be abusive, or if there’s additional context you think we need to know regarding this situation, please reply to this email and provide us with further details (including links to any additional Tweets).

In addition to Twitter's efforts to enforce our Terms of Service, we also provide tools to assist users in controlling their Twitter experience.

Thank you again for taking the time to submit your report to us. If you encounter additional content on Twitter that you believe to be abusive, please let us know by filing a new report.

Thanks,

I found this particularly amusing because I once was placed in Twitter jail for tweeting this to PETA, which was complaining about the torture of animals killed to be eaten by humans. I wrote:

@peta No torture necessary. Kill them quickly and then cook to order.
I was saying that there is no need to torture animals. Apparently, PETA didn't agree, because they complained to Twitter and I promptly received this notice:

Your account ... has been locked for violating the Twitter Rules.
Specifically for:
Violating our rules against abusive behavior.
You may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so. We consider abusive behavior an attempt to harass, intimidate, or silence someone else’s voice.
To repeat, it's not abusive to call a young woman a n****r, but it is to imply that it's possible to kill animals humanely before eating them.

Why do I suspect that if anyone used that same epithet toward Maxine Waters, Ilhan Omar, or any leftist black woman, Twitter wouldn't be quite so forgiving?

Not if the one doing the name-calling is black and/or a leftist.  Geoff is covered, IOW.  And this type of hyper-biased moderation (against anyone on the right) has been going on for decades.  Twitter is just trying to catch up.
