Rep. Meadows: ‘Would You be Happy About Being Accused…Investigated for a Crime You Didn’t Commit?’

Reacting to news Thursday that that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Trump-Russia report claims that President Donald Trump was upset by the Trump-Russia probe, Rep. Mark Meadows posed a question to the American public:

    “Would you be happy about being accused and subsequently investigated for a crime you did not commit?”

In a Twitter post, Rep. Meadows disputed the reasoning that, if Trump was unhappy about the investigation, he must be guilty:

    “Seeing more claims that because the President was unhappy about being investigated, he must be guilty. Hard to call this critique anything other than completely unserious. Would you be happy about being accused and subsequently investigated for a crime you did not commit?”

    Rep. Meadows also reminded Americans that it was never Mueller’s job (or that of any prosecutor) to “prove innocence”:

    “Reminder: today when you hear people seizing on the idea that Mueller didn't "prove innocence," remember—that was never Mueller's job. Prosecutors do not set out to prove a negative. They look for evidence to establish a case. They didn't have one. It was never there. It's over.”
