OU to relocate LGBT Center, but not everybody happy
« on: April 14, 2019, 10:30:21 pm »
Diversity run amok. The alphabet soup students needed a bigger space, so Ohio University took some of the space the black students considered theirs. Guess you can't please everyone!

OU to relocate LGBT Center, but not everybody happy

Ohio University’s LGBT Center soon will relocate to a larger space within Baker Center. However, some on campus and in Athens are unhappy with the move because they say it will take away space from the university’s Multicultural Center.

According to an OU news release distributed on Tuesday, the LGBT Center’s move is needed in order to “accommodate the needs of the Center’s growing footprint on campus.”  ...

Carla Triana, an OU senior studying international business who frequents the Multicultural Center regularly, said in a brief interview Wednesday that she and some other students of color are upset about the decision.

“I strongly feel that the LGBT Center needs more space, and they should have all the space that they need, but not by taking over (space) at the Multicultural Center,” Triana said.

The Multicultural Center is one of the few places on OU’s majority-white campus that feels like it belongs to students of color, Triana said, a place where these students regularly host events, hold discussions and hang out. ...

Justice Hill, an assistant professor of journalism and a regular critic of Secuban [Gigi Secuban, vice president for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion], charged that the move only serves to pit two groups “that are already marginalized” at OU against each other. He said he’s a big supporter of the LGBT Center, and of former Director delfin bautista (who uses they/them pronouns and the lowercase spelling of their name), but said that this isn’t the best way to go about supporting LGBT students or students of color. He added that the LGBT Center does need a new space because the current space is not in a sufficiently prominent location.

“We’ll take something away from you so that we can give this other group some space,” Hill said, characterizing the move.

Hill also hotly contested the idea that the OU administration is committed to diversity and inclusion, and said that that lack of support is one of the reasons he’s planning to quit his job at the university.

“They say diversity is a core value but it is not; it’s a dream, it’s a hope, but it’s got no value when you put a woman like her (Secuban) in charge of Diversity and Inclusion and (she) has no clue about life in southeast Ohio,” Hill charged.  ...

All the oppressed are being oppressed at OU, apparently. What they need is a gay center director who doesn't identify as anything in particular (and that includes "sane"). And if the Multicultural Center is, well, multicultural, why do the students of color not want anyone who isn't one of them to use it?

Yes, I had to look up Delfin Bautista. He's a guy, so ...

These groups seem to want nothing more than hiding out in little "members only" clubhouses with their own kind. Wait, I thought segregation was a bad thing!

Heaven help us when universities care more about how well they rate on the Pride Index than about actually educating the young skulls full of mush. As a newspaper reporter, I'm a little irritated that any reporter would knuckle under to some whackjob's preferred capitalization and pronouns. Names are capitalized, whether Mr. Bautista likes it or not. If he doesn't, he can invent his own genderless and capital letter-free language.

Ohio University’s LGBTQ-inclusive ranking to be examined
Ellen Wagner

Ohio University has four out of five stars on the Campus Pride Index, an indicator of institutional commitment to LGBTQ-inclusive policy, program and practice. The ranking could be impacted after the removal of delfin bautista, the former LGBT Center director. ...

On March 15, Shane Windmeyer, the founder and executive director at Campus Pride, wrote a letter to OU President Duane Nellis to learn more about the situation after bautista was removed and allow the university to understand how the LGBTQ-friendly rating could be nationally impacted. ...

Windmeyer also received complaints about Gigi Secuban, the vice president for Diversity and Inclusion, about her lack of knowledge for LGBTQ issues, using the wrong pronouns for students repeatedly and for not fostering an inclusive climate for LGBTQ-identifying people.  ...

School: We need to house the LGBT center in the Diversity Center
People of Color: The LGBT community is too white. White isn't diversity.
School: But....ummm...they are an oppressed minority
People of Color: No, they are white so they are not oppressed. We are oppressed. They aren't suffering.
LGBT: Your words are so hurtful.
School: Can we talk about something else?

Exactly. Diversity is mandatory, except in actual practice.

Speaking of diversity, here's another college to which no sane person should send children:

Diversity means African-American, sometimes maybe American Indians, maybe a few Arab Muslims.
Asians are not diversity.

Maybe Rutgers can work on making New Brunswick safer and start fighting crime around the campus and environment

"Diversity" means:
Anti-white.

That's all it EVER meant or was intended to mean.
