Pro-Life Propaganda, or Just the Truth?
By Alicia Colon

Before I actually went to see the film Unplanned, I read the review in Variety by Owen Gleiberman, who called it effective propaganda (if you’re part of the choir).  He writes: “Unplanned” isn’t a good movie, but it’s effective propaganda — or, at least, it is if you belong to the group it’s targeting: those who believe that abortion in America, though a legal right, is really a crime. It’s hard to imagine the movie drawing many viewers outside that self-selected demographic. “Unplanned” preaches to the pro-life choir, and it does so by making a case against abortion that’s absolutist and extreme, at certain points twisting “facts” into a narrative of conspiracy.

The author of this hit piece uses the word propaganda as a negative, which is how most people generally view it. Propaganda is bad, or is it? The definition for this word is more nuanced:

Propaganda-information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person,

    Group, movement, institution, nation, etc.

Just the truth.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

The American Thinker writer hits it on the mark, "how can it be propaganda when Abby is just writing about her experiences?". That is something that Abby Johnson was even PP's employee of the year.

The truth become propaganda when it opposes the acceptable narrative.
A lie become the truth when it supports the acceptable narrative.

Some of these people are in denial. This is why "some", probably not many, pro-lifers will hold up pictures of an aborted fetus... because people conveniently do NOT see these things. I remember about 2 years ago, I was here and there was that organization that would show movies or put up pictures of aborted fetuses at their displays at colleges....  unfortunately, some of those kinds of images probably are the most powerful.  People, often the choicers stash abortion away in the back of their mind what abortion is and think little more about it.

The issue isn't whether abortion is a "crime", nor whether it is legal right.   It is that the practice is morally abhorrent.    The movie from what I can see is an appeal to conscience.
